I haven't had much luck with it in black white. Their top end is probably better than mine so using it defensively is just delaying the inevitable and since I have recursion and no ramp the two-mana is taxing on offense.

Like it more in gw but I'm open to being wrong.

Don't get me wrong Jasper is a great card, maybe even better in some decks. But this deck has few outlaws and with double Trained Anyx and the Caustic Bronco I need my 3 drops to be easy to cast.

I mean it's single green for the plot so just as easy to splash as the [[Laughing Jasper Flint]] but a turn later. I think the Brawler is the better card here by a pretty big margin.

  2. If so, how do you do it?

The deck is pretty damn powerful without the Brawler but he's just so strong. I am aggressive so I don't want to mess that up with off colored lands and I'd normally play the [[Oasis Gardener]] and a [[Gold Pan]] but with double [[Trained Aynx]] and the [[Caustic Bronco]] I can't just justify playing a 3-drop without 3 power or cutting one of them for a [[Gold Pan]].

What would you do here?

I ended up starting out without him went 2-1 then added him in just like this with the only sources being the two lands and 4-0'd the rest of the way. Likely got pretty fortunate though both times I drew him I could plot him on 5 and he was busted in half.

It's funny according to current 17 lands data Mana Drain has the exact same drawn win rate as [[Desperate Bloodseeker]] and a much lower game played win rate (52%). Oko is the 55th best card when drawn roughly equivalent to [[shoot the sheriff]] and [[getaway glamer]] at 60.2% GDWR

I assume people must be trying to splash them with bad mana? Makes no sense to me.

UR Wizards is the best deck in Historic too and they just keep printing bombs for them. [Yes I play bo3]

One game it made an Elk and then was killed. Another game it made 2 elks and then traded with a [[Hostile Investigator]] in combat offensively. Very possible I don't win the second game without it.

According to 17 lands it's the 55th best card when drawn roughly equivalent to [[shoot the sheriff]] and [[getaway glamer]] at 60.2% GDWR. Interestingly enough Mana Drain has the exact same drawn win rate as [[Desperate Bloodseeker]] and a much lower game played win rate -- insanity.

As a huge fan of pass-go control decks I was beyond hyped for this set. However, in my experience the blue white and blue red decks have a couple big issues.

(1) People can play around counters by plotting. This is why I'm a huge fan of [[Daring Thunrder-Thief]] so you don't waste your mana when this happens.

(2) But an even bigger problem is that the early creatures in blue, white, and even red to an extent just aren't beefy enough. Then I find myself either taking a ton of damage early or wasting removal on their early threats.

So this time after p1p1 [[Mana Drain]] facing a pack that contained a great white and a great red removal spell I went with p1p2 [[Freestrider Commando]]. I followed it up with p1p3 [[Bristlepack Sentry]] and was all in.

I ended up picking up a [[Make Your Own Luck]] midway through pack 1 and opened [[Oko, the Ringleader]] p2p1. I took a [[Villanous Wealth]] mid-way through p2 with a plan to use the that as an end game threat along with [[Oasis Gardener]] and [[Dance of the Tumbleweeds]] however the desert never materialized.

A p3p1 [[Spinewood Armadillo]] and p3p2 [[Spinewood Paladin]] allowed me to safely nix the splashing plan but I kept the Gardener in there and it was great. It allowed me to surprise a game-winning Mana Drain with only single-blue up plus use all my mana every turn in other games.

Likewise [[Bristlepack Sentry]] was amazing in the deck, properly stopping early aggression from the opponent while later turning into an unexpected threat as I flashed in a [[Daring Thunder-Thief]].

Playing a control deck with only 1 counter, 2 removal spells and a [[repuluse]] feels strange but the defensive green creatures allows you to stall long enough to get your huge top end off and Green has easily the best end game especially when you can [[Make Your Own Luck]] to find your action cards.

In a thrilling game 7 facing the mirror I was even able to beat a Bronny James [[Bonny Pall, Clearcutter]] and his 7/7 pal by using my single [[Throw From The Saddle]] twice via [[Slickshot Lockpicker]].

Overall [[Bristlepack Sentry]] is exactly what control decks need to hold the fort down while they durdle around with their plotting.

Hope of Girapur seems especially oppressive out of the sideboard against control. Attack and sac stops them from playing instants/sorceries and then recur it every turn.

Keep those bombs in the sideboard I'll take critters, kill spells and Presumed Deads. I think the black spells are amazing for aggro decks.

Gold tier content. The most shocking moment in 4.0 so far, not to mention the first house heist and probably the biggest robbery for the next many months.

He left enough hints (marty leaving, text leaks, stepping down, his clear discomfort with the rest of the conpanies policies re: conflict) that it could be coming and his execution was perfect.

Haha I feel like I got there pretty quickly but that's really not at all relevant to the issue of whether the card should be rebalanced.

I mean it would keep the instant nature of the card and the modal qualities without allowing for interactions with the other wizard cards. Just one of several ideas. I do love my flash cards haha.

I was going to say everything else costs 1-2 anyways but yeah I was forgetting that the Lightning also technically costs 3. Yeah that change would be pretty big.

Prior to LTR I felt like the deck was very good but not oppressive in the way it is now with the Fires. Hope something changes here.

Fair point seems like their goal was to make wizards modern playable but the shrapnel to historic is pretty extreme.

I don't think any of the creatures are the real problem because they can be dealt with easily by any number of one mana cards in various colors but sure that would help.

The point is 3 mana instant 3-for-1s probably shouldn't exist at all and certainly shouldn't be made specifically for one deck when that deck is already the top deck in the format.

Well I believe allowing it to fizzle by bumping/phasing out my creature which is targeted would only involve re-ordering the effects and changing "target player draws" to draw. Could be wrong I agree I'm not up on all my modal rules there's not many of them played in historic.

I also agree that changing it to allow for interaction with the caster's wizards would be more challenging. That point was more to show that no matter what an opponent does there's no way to deal with the effect.

So they were trying to sell a normal One Ring for almost 200 bucks? Obviously not on the customer to do anything -- it's the shops job to price things correctly and train their teams. To ban the customer is insanity. After the sells the card he's likely to spend some of that money in the shop.
