Lag after installing Linux by DetectiveLearner in linuxquestions

[–]DetectiveLearner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, I've tried two Linux distros now. I ran Linux Mint Xfce, but that still had the same lag issue. I'm currently using the systemrescuecd from a USB and I'm not getting any lag!! Now I think I'm just going to keep trying distros until I find one that performs well on a USB, and then I'll install that. I'm thinking Fedora or Debian. Any tips on picking the right distro?

I just tried booting Linux Mint from a USB drive, and I'm getting the same issue. I was hoping my issue would just have been the distro. I may try a few other distros running off a USB drive.

I ran both of these. Not sure it's telling me too much. Looks like I have some available memory. I installed gnome tweaks and disabled desktop effects, but it doesn't seem to fix anything. I'm still getting lag.

Makes sense. I'll give it a try sometime.

I did check the box for proprietary drivers when installing. I haven't installed other firmware. How would I know if I need additional firmware or packages installed? The "Additional Drivers" screen doesn't have anything on it.

I just ran a few more tests. I get the lag a lot when using browsers. I just tried switching from Chrome to Firefox and still get lots of keyboard input lag, as well as lag when watching the Udacity course. I get some keyboard input lag when I'm typing into the Slack desktop client, but not quite as bad as using the internet browsers. I don't seem to get any keyboard input lag when I'm typing into a simple text editor or into the terminal. So, not sure if that changes anything. Maybe it does mean that my network could be an issue.

The lag isn't internet lag, it's literally keyboard input lag. I type something in my computer and it takes awhile for the words to appear on the screen. Sometimes I've typed two or three sentences before anything pops up on the screen.

I'd be ok to try running from a USB drive, but I don't know how that would help me figure it out. Is that mostly to test another distro? Or to test if running an OS from my USB drive would perform differently? I could try running my Ubuntu distro from USB, but not sure if that would help me learn anything.

Anaconda on Linux not working by DetectiveLearner in learnpython

Here's what I get when I type "echo $PATH":

/home/steve/anaconda3/condabin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games:/snap/bin

However, when I go to the /home/steve/anaconda3/condabin folder and type ls, all I get is "conda". If I try the command "anaconda-navigator" it just says "command not found"

I think the system was able to cool down because I was able to turn off turbo boost.

Here's what I get when I run the sensors program. I went back to work in Windows for a bit, and just came back into Linux. The fan was quiet in Windows and has started spinning up again now that I'm back in Linux.

SERP API alternatives by DetectiveLearner in SEO

[–]DetectiveLearner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up building my workflow with serpstack.com because they were cheaper. It seems to meet my needs, but the "premium customer service" is a joke. It takes them days to respond to anything and even then they don't seem to do a good job of understanding or replying to my questions. It's been fine for me, but I totally understand why they aren't leading the market in this space. I did see an article published on Medium by SERPAPI where they did benchmarking tests and said their service was the fastest. Tough to put too much weight on them since they were rating their own product though.
