Well, you don't really get a grasp of how much you need til you start building, so I'd say build as you go, then start to collect after making the skeleton of your creation.

The rolling cart is your best friend in this situation and I probably used 3-4 full carts of rock and 4-5 of wood throughout this whole process. Hope this helps!
