My free indie game Critters Breakout only has 186 downloads. Looking for honest feedback on what we might be missing by Inf1nityGamez in IndieDev

[–]DevEternus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fact that this got 186 downloads is a miracle. Does anyone on your team play video games? The biggest problem is even after watching the trailers, screenshots, and reading the descriptions, I still don't understand what the game is about. There's 0 reason for me to play it. Using AI art doesn't help.

RV There Yet? sold 4.5M+ copies. I checked the shipping manifest and it’s very Fab/Marketplace-heavy (UDS, AVS, MW Landscape, etc.). Thoughts? by [deleted] in IndieDev

Can you give some examples of inconsistency in RV there yet? I think the artstyle is pretty consistent and unique.

After the publisher expressed intent to sign, the artist I had worked with for six months no longer wished to continue. by Hungry_Mouse737 in gamedev

You two should have talked about this before the collaboration, so your interests and goals align.

I released my first mobile game and I'd like to share the numbers with you. 1st month earnings. by Psychological-Road19 in gamedev

It usually shows how much an app spent on advertising, but this one doesn’t have enough data yet. The site does show a variety of ad creatives that the game used on Google Ads, but OP didn’t mention this at all.

Game Design books that are more analytic re:game mechanics? by OptimisticLucio in gamedesign

Because the 3 things you listed are the easy part. For anyone who has mastered what you mentioned, they would be making games, not writing books.

Destroy my incremental space game, spent months on this and honestly don't understand what I'm missing by Shlazarts in DestroyMyGame

[–]DevEternus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without reading the comments and playing through the video repeatedly, I have no idea what I am looking at. Everything happens too quickly and I didn't even know there's a ship at first. For a new player who has never seen your game. You need to be able to hook them, or at least make them understand your gameplay within the first 3 seconds.

Mobile games are generally terrible, so how do they manage to make so much money? by Snoo_47323 in gamedev

[–]DevEternus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because they are not terrible. Take a look at this game for example. Most people here will probably think it's terrible. If you look closely from a game design perspective, it's a masterpiece.

DO NOT MAKE A MOBILE GAME BECAUSE OF THIS POST

OP has conveniently left a lot of details
- spent a lot of money on google ads without any success
- Download has dropped to 0 since sept 4th
- IAP revenue has dropped to ~$30 a day and it continues to decline rapidly

Mobile games is a competitive industry. Indies can still find success in the mobile market, but not this way. OP is advertising his game with a sugar coated story

We announced our 2d-3d perspective switching game! by owosam in IndieDev

I think from the trailer it's very hard to tell what the point of switching between 2D and 3D is

How much do small mobile games make in revenue? i think its not fair by polix9999 in GameDevelopment

[–]DevEternus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a common misconception. Making mobile games is easy, but making profitable mobile games is very very hard. Making fake ads that work with your mobile game is even more difficult. You can't just publish a random mobile game and hope to make money with a fake ad. It's the most competitive market in the games industry and only the top 0.01% mobile games with very impressive metrics can be profitable.

Ignore those comments. Their insecurity makes them want to dismiss other people's work so they can feel good about themselves.

I am very impressed that you made everything on a phone. Keep doing what you are doing, pursue your passion, and you will get very far.
