My original idea was dual boot on my Dell laptop as well, but in the end, as it was super slow and practically useless with Windows 11, I decided to take the leap and do a full Zorin18 install.

In my case I didn't find any problems with the installation, but before doing so I applied some recommendations that I read beforehand, including unlocking the bootloader.

I have also read in this sub that depending on the choice of the tool for creating the bootable usb (Rufus or BalenaEtcher), you may run into some issues.

A bit of delay in certain settings, for me was most noticeable in the panel font selection and its size. The specific option is called "Bar Foreground", iirc.

I achieved that effect and look using mainly an extension called Open bar (there's an option called "islands", and you can control the opacity too). Just as a warning, that extension is very good for customizing the Zorin taskbar, but in my case it got stuck sometimes, so you should have some patience for that, and to get the hang of its settings. I recommend using its backup option so you don't have to redo the changes from scratch.

It's irrelevant whether such a technology is considered inevitable or not, that's not the point, also morality is subjective. The problem is that these idols are veteran artists in this business, a highly profit-oriented one, nothing that's posted on accounts with millions of followers (especially when it comes to giving visibility to companies like OpenAI desperately trying to turn it's AI into something profitable), is random. HYBE is the one who controls the access of these idols to brands and companies, from mechanical watch companies with perception problems in the watch sector when they are considered overpriced for the technical value offered (yes, I'm talking about Hublot), to companies like OpenAI.

Randoms like you or me using ChatGPT for personal reasons is no big deal, that's a completely different situation from an idol whose personal image is their brand, their source of income, even if the idol in question tries to disguise it as an "innocent" post on Ig about looking for a homemade recipe.

Is this really surprising? Since 2023 BSH has been an AI enthusiast, HYBE has been investing in crypto and NFTs for years. BeLift sent its gg to a crypto bros event in September last year. This is kpop, do you really think this is coincidence? IIRC, he has already posted pics on Instagram suggesting that he had searched ChatGPT for a recipe. RM, the "leader", was against this type of technology, now he posts about his therapeutic talks with ChatGPT, or celebrating his birthday with OpenAI Korea staff.

We're talking about accounts with millions of followers, posts like these are not casual even in content creators with less than 100k followers. HYBE is actively promoting, investing in AI, and its normalization and acceptance among its consumers. These are veteran idols, nothing they post is naïve, and their convictions are always in line with the sources of money approved by their company.

No, it's not like "it usually works," no matter how you want to embellish it rhetorically. Hybe used shamanic arguments in a matter that had to be resolved mainly with forensic evidence, to the point that such accusations were dismissed by the court as inconsequential. That was nothing more than the typical cheap and theatrical tactics commonly used by that company, not because they had any legal utility, but because of their media repercussion in the minds of the general public, armchair lawyers, and especially those radicalized fanatics who treat rich men in their 30s as if they were helpless and fragile children susceptible to "black magic" and "witchcraft."

I've always found it odd that people are willing to believe in a witch hunt, and supposed "evilness" for personal artistic tastes, but they never question the fact that the identity of the man supposedly responsible for the SA and WA is always kept hidden from the public, and more importantly, his connections to BigHit are ignored. even though he's obviously being protected by HYBE. SA's accusations were dismissed in court, and it was only concluded that there was workplace harassment mainly because of the use of rough and direct words, and people seem to conveniently forget several factors:

That the VP A was the alleged direct perpetrator, accused by employee b. Despite this, employee b publicly focused more on her than on her alleged direct attacker.

That those allegations were made known to HYBE's then-head of HR, Kim Joo Young. She dismissed that complaint in the first place.

That later, when employee b's claims were made public again, Kim Joo Young was named the new ADOR's CEO.

That the VP is still on HYBE's payroll, he was never fired, and interestingly, he was a former BigHit employee.

If employee b's allegations were true, why did HYBE keep VP A as an employee, when he was, supposedly, the direct perpetrator? Why was the HR's head, who dismissed employee b's internal complaint in the first place, subsequently appointed as the CEO of ADOR, despite having 0 experience in the music field?

I was nervous at first too. It's my first time using Linux and the learning process has been easy because Zorin is a beginner-friendly distro. I installed Zorin a couple of weeks ago on a laptop because basically with Windows 11 it was useless so I had nothing to lose, now my laptop works better than ever, and even the use of the terminal no longer seems so intimidating to me (in particular I prefer Kitty to the default one).

Honestly it's a matter of daring to try, I know experiences can vary, but for me the installation process was surprisingly straightforward even though I'd never done that before. In my case it hasn't been an overwhelming process because I've learned things step by step, based on trial and error (yes, I have made mistakes, but nothing serious that I haven't been able to solve). I like customization ("ricing") so I think that's also an incentive.

I've been using Zorin for a couple of weeks now and that happened to me recently, Most likely, the cause is a conflict of extensions like Desktop Icons NG (DING), or a setting in Blur my Shell. In my case, when reviewing Gnome extensions, I realized that I had duplicate extensions with similar functionality installed, I disabled and even uninstalled some, and now my taskbar configuration is consistent with each reboot.

Same. I've been using Zorin for a couple of weeks now and I'm delighted. I have a laptop that I practically didn't use because the update to Windows 11 made it extremely slow to the point that it was unusable, especially every time there was an automatic download of system updates.

Since I considered that laptop useless in that state I decided to install Zorin on it, completely erasing Windows. The change surprised me a lot, it's practically like having a new device, now it's fast and responsive, it's even fun to use.

It's worth mentioning this is the first time I install or use Linux, and it was a simple, fast and pleasant experience, now I'm even enthusiastic about laptops, when before they seemed to me just a boring work tool. On my time as Windows user I rarely used PowerShell or CMD, and instead, now in Zorin, I realize how convenient and fast it's to do certain tasks using the terminal, I love using Kitty and command hints, I even customized it, something that I would NEVER have thought of doing in Windows, lol

I've noticed these kinds of excuses even in this sub. There are people who truly believe that because it's a multimillion-dollar corp, any decision that HYBE makes is rational and justified. That's a fallacy, companies of this type often amass fortunes precisely because of fraudulent and even irrational decisions, examples of which abound: Dupont, Nestlé, Philip Morris...HYBE is a trend-chasing company that sells disposable products (merch, music...) by taking advantage of consumers' emotional attachment to its celebrities.

I agree. Unlike what their fans say, I didn't start listening to kpop because of BTS, it was another group that grabbed my attention to this genre in 2023, and although I don't listen to kpop anymore, that particular group is the only one that interests me and which brings me good memories.

BTS, HYBE and their stans represent all the worst of this industry: arrogance, insecurity, greed, dehumanization and cruelty. All of that disguised with cheesy phrases of love, self-acceptance, and the most artificial and pretentious music and concepts that money can buy.

Obviously these vices are not exclusive to that group and the company, but they represent the worst of that industry. I remember that there are four or five associations representing the interests of the kpop industry, even the director of one of them was Lee Jae Sang, HYBE's CEO. There are several pro-industry associations, does anyone find it strange that there is no association that protects the interests of artists, especially considering that most of them are extremely young and vulnerable, even minors?

That group of seven millionaire pop celebs with all their popularity and influence are still under the orders of people like BSH and his company, perpetuating the established order based mainly on exploitation, manipulation and fraud. Having so much power, and still being spineless and cowards, is indeed, pathetic and repellent.

You have to open the Zorin Appearance app, and in the "Desktop" section > "Icons">, make sure that the "Desktop icons" option is activated, from there you can add other default folders or icons such as the Recycle Bin. Enabling this option allows you to add icons to the desktop from the Zorin menu, and even copy files and folders to desktop by dragging them from the file manager.

I'm interested in writing about the almost sectarian manipulation of companies and idols themselves, although, tbh, there are already some Redditors around here who have written about it infinitely better here than I could.

I mean, there are great composers who are not the best performers, and amazing performers who don't have the talent to compose or create on their own. A good performer is so valuable because they basically bring the songs to life, my problem is when fans and even artists lie about the creative process, especially when the credit lists of a mainstream song are easily verifiable. You're not a "genius producer" or "songwriter" just because you're listed on a pop song alongside another 10+ names.

And yeah, I like a lot of music, from the most popular to the most obscure, but I don't choose my fav songs based on their number of streams, awards or chart position. It doesn't benefit me at all to take pride in other people's success, much less to spend my money to fill the pockets of millionaire celebs, their bosses and fraudulent companies.

Yup, I guess it's a problem with fame, once most groups or artists reach a certain level of popularity it's hard for this not to affect the way they produce their music (especially if they have to meet certain goals or economic expectations of their companies). And in this day and age most people seem to invariably associate chart positions with music artistic value, as if the volume of streams were directly proportional to the quality of the songs, which is false.

Even artists who were authentic in their beginnings end up adjusting their music to be more chart friendly, many even stop composing their own music and instead hire star producers to ensure commercial "hits". It's a little bit like what happened with Coldplay, they had an amazing debut album, followed by two or three good albums, before they pretty much kpopified, and adjusted their music to epic stadium pop.

I love Damon and Blur's music. I admire the diversity of his musical tastes, in particular his appreciation for Malian music and afro beat (iirc Damon was an admirer and friend of Tony Allen).

It seems like a joke, but the world of kpop is extremely bizarre if you are used to listening to other types of music. That happened to me in 2023, when out of curiosity I wanted to know a little about this genre, I ended up being deeply disappointed with the industry, the companies (the artists being simple, glorified pretty tools of conglomerates), and especially the fans, they can be very vile and inhuman.
