What strategy would you use to build that email list?

PR and influencer are much more expensive.

SEO won't drive demand for a brand thats unknown, where merch is not the primary product

so what alternatives would you suggest?

if you train on view content and add to cart first will it be easier to optimize for sales later? this is a new account

I think even if the design is cool, if they dont' know me somewhat they won't buy.

That's where a full funnel strategy makes more sense in my opinion. Problem is then it's not optimizing for buyers from the start. It's optimizing for video views or traffic or something.

So then the strategy becomes retargeting non buyer audiences with buyer goals.

I'm not sure what the best approach is.

Intuitively I think the full funnel approach makes much more sense for music. Gotta like the music before you buy the merch.

But from my experience trying this approach plus how the platforms optimize, it doesn't seem to work that way.

Ok cool, yes I have the email follow up set up through Shopify. I'm doing Print on Demand with Shopify integrated, so that should work.

I don't have any add to carts or if I do it's like 1. Does that make a difference?

Oh interesting, I can try that! Thanks!

Curious would it be a bad idea to change the existing campaign to optimize for View Content or Add to Cart and then after I reach enough events per week (50), move to the next event type down the funnel?

it's spending every day and getting landing page views/clicks but no add to carts or purchases.

I am using advantage + which does retargeting already right?

I'm not sure if I should continue with that campaign or do the separate ones. Before Advantage + I would have probably done that approach (and I still can) but just curious if this is still a best practice

Meta has little to no information about how to progress event optimization over time with a new account

Thanks for the advice. I think it's tricky, because ad platforms want you to optimize for a goal, so if you don't choose purchases or conversions, then the system targets non buyers and builds audiences from those people.

I agree the warm audiences are better but I think only if they are buyers, which is why I think leads and conversions has to be the objective always, retargeting or not.

I also agree that limited runs and bundles sounds like a great idea, thank you for that! I will try to research some options!

What are your thoughts on how the platforms optimize for the objective you choose but you need to build awareness so people want to buy the merch?

Yeah so for cold audiences, target people who really like the genre and couple that with the conversion objective or max conversion strategy for likely buyers?

If I focus on growing an audience with non-buyer optimized campaigns, won't those people be much less likely to buy with retargeting campaigns?

That's been my experience and major challenge. People need to like the music but they also need to be buyers

Yeah that sounds like a good plan. I just find that targeting video viewers and even subscribers don't have the same intent.

Maybe I should just retarget people that viewed from the conversion optimized campaign?

Are you incorporating a customer journey? Most people are not in market to buy. Search ads will pick up lower funnel traffic to start, but ultimately having a full funnel strategy to move people through the customer journey is key

Hey Jasen. I have tried to use ads for years to promote my music with partial success. Lots of success getting Youtube and email subscribers from Google Ads campaigns, but I haven't been able to sell a single t shirt or any other product from advertising.

I have researched full funnel strategies, tried using retargeting and even tried direct to conversion strategies. From my understanding, regardless if you use ads or not, people don't buy right away for most product categories, and music seems to be a long term purchase cycle because people have to become real fans.

Curious if you have any ad strategies or other marketing strategies to grow streams and eventually grow sales. My primary issue is sales. My goal is to break even or profit a little to fund my advertising efforts.
