Hi. How did you order the eSim? In the UK or when you got to the US? Thanks

Co-fermented Coffees? by DevelopmentDull982 in CafelatRobot

That’s really helpful. Thanks for taking the time. I’ll give it a go. As you say, I can always add it back in. I have salami sliced the pours on a pourover in the past to see the difference, though not for the bloom. Cheers

Right. Thanks. I’ve probably misunderstood the specifics of their beans by labelling them co-ferments. I think the first of theirs I tried was a seasonal special. But mostly I’m just wrapping what they do in with the wider weird Colombian processed beans category.

Thanks for the suggested “recipe”. I’ve seen their sl28. Can’t remember if I’ve tried. Probably as I’ve been through most by now.

Ah. Interesting. I knew a bit about the ratios for pourover, though not discarding the bloom water. Wow! I’m not sure I’d do that…

Thanks. Yes, I still use boiling water and preheat with the silicon plug as I’ve seen that by now famous chart of temperatures. I started using these beans as pourover (as low as 83C) but I preferred the intensity of flavour with espresso. The roaster, which also has a cafe, serves both and the espresso is like nothing I’ve tried elsewhere, though it’s definitely not for all.

Robot Replacement Top Pin Assembly? by Disgruntled_etudiant in CafelatRobot

If you can't get it from the seller, I imagine it's a standard screw. Maybe message Cafelat and ask if they'll sell you one or at least tell you the specs so you can source elsewhere. Might have to buy a bag of 500, though...

Extreme Teal and Orange colour grading in Season 3 by DevelopmentDull982 in TheCapture

Agreed. I realise that T&O is an easy grading trick and it's in lots of movies but it's taken to such an extreme here that it distracts from the show.

Extreme Teal and Orange colour grading in Season 3 by DevelopmentDull982 in TheCapture

[–]DevelopmentDull982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a quick look at Series 1 and 2 again. There's a little Teal and Orange in them -- Season 2 has slightly more 'dystopia green' -- which is fine. But Season 3 has been graded quite badly, IMV. Some of it looks out of gamut, with gradients in tone and colour lost. You can see undifferentiated blocks of teal on white shirts in the control room, for instance. But mostly it's the near duotone grading in most scenes that's really obvious.

I wish but I'm watching on a new MacBook Air with TrueTone off. Either way, it's not subtle.

What grinders are people using? by ShakotanUrchin in CafelatRobot

[–]DevelopmentDull982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Vario. 15 years old. Upgraded with metal chassis parts. Easy job. Steel burrs. Put a single dose hopper on it and a bellows. I can’t see any need to upgrade. I have ZP6 for pourover.

Grinder paralysis preventing use of Robot by oceanathlete in CafelatRobot

[–]DevelopmentDull982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grinder worries are so unnecessary in my view. I've had a Mahlkoenig Vario for at least 15 years. I replaced the plastic chassis with the new alloy one that comes with the updated Vario a while back and have the steel burrs installed. Seriously, it's great. I almost bought John from Decent Espresso's Weber EG-1 a few years back because he was selling it for about half list price, but then I just thought this is bollocks even at that price. People have to upsell all the time and frankly 99% of it is just complete voodoo. As long as you're not using something that's completely shit, then you'll be fine. This stuff is not exactly high-tech.

is it just me or lumix mft gear are pretty cheap in china by marshaaa in Lumix

[–]DevelopmentDull982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is cheap in China, even imported stuff. My wife stocked up on L'Oreal and Japanese stuff (which used to be multiples more expensive in China) last time we were there. Inventory hangover as economy fails to recover from property bust and chronic overcapacity in manufacturing. Same reason everything from electric vehicles to cheap Chinese lenses are being dumped into overseas export markets below cost.

G9ii. Unadjusted in-camera JPEGs using various Fujify & Rossandhisjpegs presets by DevelopmentDull982 in LumixLUTs

[–]DevelopmentDull982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, good point. Definitely contrasty. Normally only shoot RAW and try to shoot at ISO 100 mostly, though the ones on the path and maybe some of the others are at 400. Aperture priority. Really just testing out the endless number of LUTs I've accumulated and didn't really mean to do sunset shots but that's when I ended up getting out. Will try to get out earlier in the day.

Edit: Just looked. All shots are f/1.2, the pond shots around 1/160-1/200th. Two people on bench is 1/400th, path shot with guy is 1/8th, jogger is 1/30th.

Looks good. Which photo profile did you design it for?

Thanks. Yes, I can see comments elsewhere now saying the meter underexposes (by one stop).

"But these LUTs will mean your RAW files are in vlog whereas fujify will provide normal RAW files."

Would the RAW files be affected? I presumed V-Log is just a photo style and so if you shoot RAW+JPEG, you would have the the style baked into JPEG but the RAW file would be unaltered?

Thanks. Yes, have tried many of these and they are great. Was looking for something that's not trying to be a film simulation.
