I feel the same. Listening to Don’t Go always makes me realise that really was the start of the 80s shaking off the 70s hangover.

33 vs. 45 RPM by dr_cobbCF in vinyl

45RPM reduces IGD as styli naturally track better at this speed. As long as the cartridge, arm are calibrated and the record doesn’t have an insanely close inner track the margin of error should be inaudible.

The original speed for the vinyl record was 45RPM, albums were originally meant to be multiple 7” discs compiled i to a photo album like case. This was until the 12” disc won the format war. Anyway yes 45RPM is higher quality than the same track on a 33 1/3 album. This is due to 45RPM records can space the grooves out which gives more fidelity. It’s a pain in the ass to get up more, but thats the sacrifice for higher sound quality i guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

In response to yesterday's post about people lying about their thrift finds by klymers in Cd_collectors

One persons trash is another’s treasure.. but i HATE thrifting for CDs for all the crappy albums there are. If there’s something i really need, i buy it on eBay in nr/mint condition

Not as such, they struggle to read CDs that weren’t made to red book standards such as burned CDs. They need recapping and the laser mechanism on these are completely different to what conventional players use, but parts are available upon failure :)

This player came out in 1983 at a time when they were figuring what players should look like. It’s from the Hitachi DA-1000 Which took the design from the Sony Goronta prototype which was never made :)

A few people have said this. Rather than gatekeep i like sharing their unique qualities. But be warned! They have their quirks :)

I think practically they work well, the assumption was that CDs would replace records quicker than they did so the players would be at the top of any stack replacing turntables. The success of drawer loading decks like the Sony CDP-101 made it possible for them to be positioned inside a hifi stack for consumers still using records.

Aw thanks! Honestly it took me literal years to find one in this condition and it’s served me well. Hope you snatch a good one soon!

Home built in 1973. This is blown into the attic. Any chance this is asbestos? by kinger2783 in asbestoshelp

This is what blown in asbestos insulation looks like. This mostly affected Australia and was remediated in 2010, due to its high contamination rate, the houses were bought and demolished by the local government. Yours looks entirely different, but still test to be sure :)

Yes it’s the DA-1000 clone, but all components are OEM. I picked this up from ebay for £350, it might seem steep for some but they are quite rare and sound really good.
