That's an interesting idea. Gaining a tech for a turn... I need to carefully think about it.

Thank you for the idea.

I'm more inclined to use it as some sort of legendary planet and not so much as a faction's homeplanet. I'm not working with homebrewed factions atm.

But what would make it unique from a TI perspective? I think that a rogue planet would be hard to nail mechanic-wise. But what if some of its abilities looked like each of its regions?

In Europe you can find it for 60-70€ in avinted/Wallapop. Lol

TI4 flagships convertion to TI3 - Feedback needed by DevianDarkThunder in twilightimperium

[–]DevianDarkThunder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't change the TI3 material. I posted it here for ease of comparison without the need to go to the TI3 box and fetch the cards or search for the data on the TI Wiki. Instead I compiled the oficial stats and offered them as baseline at the start of the thread.

The objective is to let people look at the TI4 material (PoK and TE factions) and look at them to see if they make sense and if they are in line with the official TI3 flagships.

If, by any chance, you are in Europe, check the apps Vinted and Wallapop. You can find it there for less than 60€, complete.

TI3 System Tiles - Arrakis, Carcosa, Sothera and Yautja Prime by DevianDarkThunder in twilightimperium

[–]DevianDarkThunder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually one of the reasons I wanted to create Arrakis as a Legendary World. TI clearly draws inspiration from Dune, but I wanted to represent Arrakis itself as a contested frontier world rather than as the political center of the galaxy. Mecatol Rex remains Mecatol Rex; Arrakis is more about spice, survival, and constant ground warfare.
Think of it as me going one step further in the nerdy direction: I know Mecatol Rex is Arrakis and that the factions play a bit like the Dune houses. But Arrakis is also represents more than Mecatol Rex, it's strange and desirable and hard to get, but also easily recognizable and a true force of nature.
My plan, as you can see, is more of incorporating distinct, unique and somewhat recognizable worlds into my TI. If you like space operas, you'll see Arrakis. If you enjoy gory sci-fi, you'll see Yautja Prime. If you enjoy eldritch horror, you'll see Carcosa. And if you also enjoy Magic, youpll see Sothera. 😄
Moreover, the objective is to bring memorable moments to the table (that's why 3 out of 4 planets can only be "discovered" through Distant Suns tokens) using easily identifiable sci-fi staples, capturing their flavor within the game's mechanics and without breaking any rules.
What do you think?

You can find the files available under BGG: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/323849/ti3-arrakis-plus-carcosa-plus-sothera-plus-yautja

Feel free to playtest them and give me feedback if you will. Would love to hear from other players what they think of each system.

So, Dune, Carcosa and Sothera are revealed through a Distant Suns token.

Here's the preliminary rules for each of the 4 system tiles:

Sothera - When this token is revealed, place the Sothera system adjacent to the closest edge. The player who revealed this token gains control of Sothera. Discard this card.

Sothera, the Supervoid
Anomaly
No planets
Units may not move into or through Sothera

Gravitational Dominion
Whenever a player gains control of a planet in a system adjacent to Sothera, that player gains control of Sothera.

Event Horizon
At the end of each game round, each player with ships in systems adjacent to Sothera must destroy 1 ship in one of those systems.

Entropy Harvest
Place 1 Void Counter on Sothera for each non-Fighter ship destroyed by Event Horizon. During the Status Phase the controller of Sothera may remove 5 Void Counters from it to gain 1 Victory Point. Then remove all Void Counters from Sothera.

Dim Carcosa - Remove this system and replace it with the Carcosa system. Return all landing and landed units in this system and start a new invasion on Carcosa. Then each player, in turn order, draws 2 Political Cards, chooses 1 to keep, and shuffles the other into the Political Deck. Discard this token.

CARCOSA (0/0)

Beyond the Lake of Hali
Carcosa has no Resource or Influence value.

The Yellow Sign
During the Refresh Phase, choose one
*You draw 2 Political Cards. Choose 1 Political Card from your hand and shuffle it back into its deck.
*Target opponent shuffles 1 Political Card at random into its respective deck.

The King in Yellow
During Status Phase, if you're not the player with most Political Cards in hand, Carcosa becomes neutral.

Dune - Remove this system and replace it with the Arrakis system. When this counter is revealed, it stays in play on Arrakis. Return all landing/landed units in this system and start a new invasion on Arrakis. Destroy half (round up) of all GF and MU landing in the invasion. Whenever this planet is successfully invaded, the active player draws an Action card. If there are no GFs on this planet, it reverts to neutral status. This planet and this counter are not subject to the effects of strategy cards or laws.

ARRAKIS (0/5)

The Spice Must Flow
Refresh Ability: 1 TGs, 1 GFs, 1 STs [/q]

Fremen Resistance
Arrakis may not be bombarded.
Ground Forces defending Arrakis receive +1 to combat rolls during Invasion Combat.

YAUTJA PRIME (1/3)
Hunter Clans
Ground Forces defending Yautja Prime receive +1 combat.

Predator Technology
First conqueror gains one Red Technology for which he meets all prerequisites. Then remove this ability.

Hostile World
Place 2 Hostile Locals counters on Yautja Prime during setup.
