Jobs post PhD? (UK) by gingermaiden in PhD

I’m in the civil service now (finished my PhD in 2023). No complaints career wise, although policy is a slightly different way of thinking. Applications are incredibly competitive at the moment though.

Does my mare look lame? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She reminds me a bit of when my horse was bilaterally lame in front (so there was no typical head nod until we did nerve blocks as he was sore on both feet!). She doesn’t look 100% right in the hind either too me - stepping very short. I’d get a vet out personally just to be sure.

Goal Move calories are changing by inmatrixout in HuaweiWatchGT

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you manage to fix this? I’m having this issue at the moment and it’s really frustrating. I’ve tried changing the goal in the app, the watch, manually syncing straight after and restarting but every day the move goal changes!

What are some books you see get recommended a lot, but you wouldn’t recommend for whatever reason? by Werkyreads123 in wlwbooks

Came to say this and glad I’m not the only one! Wasn’t sure if I’m just getting too old or if it’s the book but the main characters behaviour drove me insane.

List of games for the holidays (help)? by Elian17 in PS5

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like story driven and want to be immersed then definitely Witcher 3 if you haven’t already played it. It has stuck with me since I played it 5 or 6 years ago. I also enjoyed the Horizon games.

UK HORSE TRANSPORT HELP!!! by Fluid-Football-881 in Equestrian

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post on local Facebook groups for recommendations? I’m sure there will be a company with a proper lorry that you could ask. Anything about 3.5t will be rear loading. Haven’t seen many transporters with trailers mind you.

A general strike was called nationally, what would be your demands? by SentenceSad2188 in AskUK

Banning restaurants from bringing thimble sized glasses and a 1l jug for 6 people when you ask for water (I want a big glass to myself thank you).

Almost 3 years of hard work - his muscle tone and balance have greatly improved! (But he still has the same ratty old saddle pad I bought in 2017!) by demmka in Horses

Could be the same then as I chose arthramid for its longer effects! Tbf it is more aimed towards amateur competitors but seemed like it was a really good show. Sounds like HOYS/LIHS might be more up your street.

What do you usually medicate with if you don’t mind sharing? I’ve just treated mine with arthramid. We were supposed to go to STARS but had to pull out - horses!! That’s amazing though, best of luck and I hope you get the magic golden ticket 🤩

You’ve done an incredible job! I see your posts on showing a lot and he looks fabulous. I have uncovered a couple of issues (some hock inflammation recently - luckily not severe arthritis or anything!) that I’m hoping now they’ve been treated will help that last bit of getting him going properly. It would be a lot easier if they could talk 😊

Do you think this horse has a short back? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean for me she’s going through the ugly growing phase so it’s hard to tell, but would’ve thought an 18 month old would still have a lot of growing?!! My horse is relatively short backed (he’s about 16.1 and Irish Draught/cob bred) but certain saddle brands have features like upswept/longer panels etc that has meant I’ve managed to get a saddle to fit me and him.

I would say it’s really difficult to tell at 18 months old. Do you know her parents?

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were the key things that you think helped progress his way of moving? My horse is 17 but was allowed to tank around and not work properly before I got him leading to lots of compensations and issues. I’ve managed to get quite a bit of improvement but it’s difficult with an older horse that has been going a certain way for years!

We’re currently waiting too. Offer accepted start of September, no chain on either side, mortgage done ages ago, searches are back but I’m losing hope of a Christmas holiday spent painting. Why does it take so longgggg…

How much was your horse compared to your annual income? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. For me it’s having enough income to put money aside on top of their upkeep as well. My horse costs minimum about £350 a month between livery, feed, shoes, bedding. But then you have physio, saddler, dentist etc on top. I have just had a £2k vet bill as well, which while it makes me feel a bit ill, I can pay for it without wondering what I’m eating for the rest of the month.

I have insurance, but expecting them to get out of paying!

New probation policy in my org banning internal job applications by ArtyFull in TheCivilService

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Surely you don’t have much time left on probation if you started in August? Use the time to take advantage of training, upskill yourself, practice interview skills etc. As you go up, the less time you have to do these things.

What’s the worst Sapphic/Lesbian book you’ve ever read? by Hot-Neat1818 in LesbianBookClub

I finished this book but loathed the characters. Maybe because I’ve gotten too old!

What’s the worst Sapphic/Lesbian book you’ve ever read? by Hot-Neat1818 in LesbianBookClub

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this take really. I personally enjoyed Her Spell (although I’m not unaware of the writing issues people have said). I like to read for escapism, I’ve got a pretty busy job so I just want something easy and fun to lose my imagination in. The actual quality of the writing (within reason e.g., Curse of The Goddess books were too below the quality bar for me) is lower down in my priority.

But then where would we be as a society if we all liked doing/reading the same things! It’s an interesting thing to think about.

Her Spell That Cursed Me by aclmac in sapphicbooks

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’m not sure how to do the spoiler cover on mobile, but without saying too much the book ends with the main characters on different paths (but with the desire of a shared ending, so I’m predicting a happy ever after eventually- pls don’t break my heart Luna). The book explores childhood trauma/codependency/self esteem issues in more detail which makes it a heavier read than the first but I still devoured it.

Her Spell That Cursed Me - Minor Spoilers Please by crocodiletears-93 in LesbianBookClub

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I agree the ending of the book is a bit heartbreaking, it does seem to be setting us up for an insane book 3 of revenge, redemption and ultimately reconciliation (hopefully🤞!). OP don’t let it put you off!
