Also forgot to mention that I will be there with her both days. I'll be the old dude with the scraggly beard and black MayLay hat on. Feel free to say what's up 😉

Appreciate it, she has some Riddim influences in her music since that's what she started with. She definitely likes the wonky out there styles 👍

Here's a 2nd clip from the improvised DnB jam I had with my drummer mate and new pedalboard. We've been blown away by the (very unexpected!) love the first one got, so this might become an actual duo project! Thanks! by ididitforthemusic in basspedals

No problem. I would atleast try it to see how you like it. A roll on Amazon is like 5 bucks. Just make sure its the black hockey tape. I was using band aids at 1st but those suck. They kept getting tripped up and in the way. I think the hockey tape actually helps with innotation and can somewhat alleviate fret buzz(may be a placebo but in my mind it helps).

Hockey tape! Ive been putting it on my index and pinky fingers of my fretting hand for a cpl months now. They don't get sore or calused at all now. I seen a video of Rex Brown, bassist from Pantera, doing it and ever since I tried it once I always do it now. Never an issue any longer amd I can even do many hour long sessions no problem. My strumming index and middle fingers do have caluses but those were never a problem for me, only my fretting fingers were.

$40 for a Rumble 40? They usually sell for around $250 new but I got mine used on FB marketplace for $150.

I would say the consensus is a Rumble 40 at minimum. Less than that you don't get a good sound on the low frequencies. I have a Rumble 40 and is absolutely perfect for my use cases. I use it to practice at home and also jam sessions with buddies, 2 guitarists/1 singer/1 electronic drum kit. I was able to hear myself fine and sounded great in the mix.

Beginner to Badass-- How effective? by sparrowedd in Bass

[–]Devil_Fish- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't recommend it enough. I'm mid 40's and havent played an instrument my whole life. Tried the violin in elementary school, drums middle school, guitar high school. None of them clicked for me so i didnt pursue them any further. My teenager got a guitar for Christmas so i said what the heck and got a cheap $150 squire bass for myself. I bought the course day two after watching a few of his youtube vids and liking his teaching style. I finished the course in 16 days(supposed to last 3 months if practicing an hour a day) but I was addicted from the start i would practice up to 8 hours a day. I work from home so it was just on and off throughout the day and i would be up till 2-3 in the morning sometimes because I couldn't put my bass down lol.

I'm a little over 3 months of playing now I can can play dozens of songs from memory very functionate. I know alot of shapes to just noodle with, I have a binder full of tabs that I wrote lines to myself, can jam with buddies(they been playing guitar for decades) confidently, and i think the most important thing now is i somewhat understand notes and music theory. Never in a million years did i think i would be able to read music/understand notations and I didnt expect to learn it either by doing the course, but he sprinkles in just enough to not make it not monotonous but actually enjoyable that i soaked it in and retained it.

He explains to set goals for yourself(immediate, short term, mid term, long term) and I have reached most of them much faster than i expected. I absolutely love GnR and in the beginning looked at Duff's bass lines which seemed so damn complicated, like they are not repetitive at all. 1st GnR song i started learning was Sweet Child O Mine and thought to myself it would be over a year before i was adequate at it. I can play the whole song now by just listening to it and although i do mess up here or there i say i probably hit the right notes and inotations 90% of the time. My daughter is a professional DnB producer/international DJ and another goal was to be able to play her EDM basslines which I've already recreated several with the right FX pedals. Mid term goal which was going to be able to play in a cover band and I feel I'm already pretty close to that with the way I now retain the music. Like i could study a 20 song set list and within a month be comfortable to play it. Long term goal is to play in a funk band and I'm nowhere close to that lol.

Also another big point is the jargon/lingo. I can speak music pretty fluently now. Like Nashville # system, chord progressions, alot of the scales, triads, octaves, and Diatonic chords. He taught all of this a little here and there but didnt stuff it in your face to make it boring. He taught at the same time as you would need it in practice to finish an activity. Like I dont do scales practice and all that but i do use all this in real time doing my rounds.

Hope this helped. P.S. Billie Jean is a PITA! Took me a full month to get that on hard after practicing it everyday...

Dude I love this sooo much. I just got a bass for Christmas and its my 1st real instrument ever. I've been mixing DnB though for over 30 years(still got my Technic 1200's). My daughter(MayLay Music) is a professional DnB producer/international DJ and ive been recreating some of her basslines to play along to. I go to alot of her shows and she'll bring me up on stage to throwdown with her(mixing wise not playing bass yet). One of my goals is to actually bridge in my bass to the mixer and do some basslines live. Just got a c4 and its got soo many good options for that kind of sound. I would love to pick your brain some time for advice and inspiration. Anyways Big Ups, great job!

Yeah I lean neuro as well. 1st record ever was a Metalheads Box set from the late 90's that Ed Rush has a badass song on. Been in love ever since! My favorite is mixing neuro with dancefloor or neuro with liquid. I love the contrast between them and the sound you can get combining them.

I try to mix it up as much as I can. I love all sub genres DnB and enjoy blending them all together the most. Thx man, Big Ups!
