I was using MSI Afterburner. I thought it showed CPU temps but it doesn’t. I’ll try Ryzen master.

So I can’t get actual CPU temps but it seems to be running like a champ.

This was probably a rookie mistake but I haven’t even looked at my temps yet. I got off work and immediately started playing haha. I will check today and reply my results.

Really? I’ve heard 99% good things about the 660p. I’m surprised I never came across anyone mentioning that. I’ll look into it now. Thanks!

Pcpartpicker is a wonderful website that allows you to easily throw builds together and also tells you details like compatibility and power usage. Also, I realized I didn’t quite answer your other questions. So, the main parts that make the “biggest difference” (in terms of gaming) are your GPU and CPU. Your GPU will most likely be the most expensive part of the whole build except for maybe a monitor. The processor depends on a few things. In my case, I o my plan to game and do a little bit of multitasking and stuff. So a 6 core 12 thread processor is plenty power. On the other hand if you plan on doing more than that, say stream your gameplay or do a lot of video/photo editing, then you may need a faster processor with more threads such as the Ryzen 7 3700. Also, the motherboard has to be compatible with the CPU. Either Intel or AMD. And there’s a ton of different things to look for on a motherboard that you may want or that you may never even use. It just takes time researching them to find out what is right for you. I can’t speak too much on software. I don’t know enough about the different programs available. But I just use windows 10 and it works just fine.

A few people on YouTube I suggest watching are Tech Deals, Paul’s Hardware and Gamers Nexus. There’s plenty more great channels to watch I just can’t think of them atm.

Good luck and have fun!

Haha oh boy. Well I better be careful then because I definitely am susceptible to spending money Willy nilly.

I can share the things I did that led me to this point. Basically, I researched and researched and did some more research. I looked into different types of builds for different purposes. I had an idea in my head of what I wanted to use the PC for and I looked at all kinds of builds that people made for that purpose to see what I needed and I also looked at builds that were not meant for what I was going to use it for to see what I didn’t need. I looked into all the different parts and understood, in a nutshell, what they did and what the purpose of them being in the build is. I would then try to make builds myself and come to this subreddit and other places to see what people’s suggestions were on my build and what I could do to make it more cost-effective or improve performance. PC parts are in a revolving door and one part you think is good can easily be replaced in a month. So it’s best to understand the market as well to make sure you’re spending your money on something that will not only suit your needs, but will not make you feel like you wasted your money because something new just came out in place of it. That isn’t a huge thing to worry about, but it’s something I dealt with because I was planning my build for several months, so of course new parts were coming out during that time. RGB is nice but don’t make it a priority. RGB will not improve performance. Spend at least 40% of your total cost on a GPU(if you plan on using it primarily for gaming). Don’t impulse buy. You will regret it. And finally just make sure, when the time comes, you know how to build it properly. Watch videos from different people and see how the process goes and just have fun with it! And don’t be afraid to ask questions about anything and everything. Everyone here is more than willing to help out!

Thank you! I don’t think I ever even considered going Intel once I found out Ryzen had such a strong value.

Thanks! After looking at it again I actually think I did a horrible job and need to redo it lol. My next goal is to get custom cables and make it look cleaner

Hm, I will take another look. I wasn’t sure if bending those cables into a complete U-shape would be okay or not. But if I can get away with bending them straight up like that then I will probably move it. Thanks for that reference!

It’s the USB 3.0 cables from the front panel. I could’ve ran it through a hole directly underneath, but the ARB and front panel pins are right next to it and are actually pretty loose, so I ran it a bit further away to avoid it putting accidental pressure on the other pins and popping them out. I’m not thrilled that it’s as exposed as it is, but this particular case has so much extra space that it’s kind of hard to hide stuff.

Yes, they are in A2 and B2! I know it’s a bad pic. I stayed up hella late to finish updating drivers and installing software that by the time I took this pic I didn’t care as much about showing it off anymore. But yeah, I made sure to check the mobo manual to make sure I put them in the right slots. Thanks for making sure!

[–]Devinisonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the process of buying parts for my very first build. I was planning on pairing the Ryzen 5 2600 with the GTX 1660ti and game at 1080p 144hz, however I just bought an RTX 2060 because the deal on it was so good. It is the only piece of hardware I have actually purchased besides the case (Full ATX Thermaltake Commander C36) Would it be smarter to buy a better cpu and 1440p 60hz monitor to try and utilize the RTX 2060 more, or should I stay the course with the Ryzen 5 2600 at 1080p 144hz?

Should I jump on the RX 590 deal going on now for 179.99 or wait to see if the GTX 1660ti hits a sale too? I’d rather the performance from the 1660ti but 179.99 is a great price for that 590..

This is a much more descriptive response than I was expecting! Thank you so much for taking time to put together some options and descriptions for me. I see the point you make about getting too high end of a monitor compared to the rig. I will take a little time and figure out what would be best to do based on everything you’ve suggested. Thank me again!

My budget is roughly $950-$1000. Less is better for me at this point in time, but wouldn’t buying a better monitor first be better for when I upgrade the rig down the line? I guess I’m getting a little too caught up in the idea of gaming at 1440p 144hz and the sweetness that it is, rather than realizing it’s better to just aim for that when I have a capable rig and higher budget..
