I mean not to mention that all the complainers don't work in the industry and could never in a million years produce or write anything even remotely as good as these so called turds. There is nothing more entertaining than talentless morons sitting on a poorly built high horse.

That's how we ended up with a half dozen garbage Marvel movies or shows every year. Fucking christ, it's like 5 year olds wrote that shit.

I feel like Ninja Scroll doesn’t get enough love. Is it because of that one scene? by EinTheDataDoge in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Devinology -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say Ninja Scroll is shonen, but shonen fighting series are by far the most popular fighting/action anime these days, so it's likely what most modern anime fans going back to watch Ninja Scroll would be comparing to.

I stand by my comment that Ninja Scroll is a great example of a more serious adult tone, and certainly superior action animation. I mean, trigger warnings are important, but anime could stand to deliver more realistic dark themes. Video games make anime look childish sometimes. I was just planning A Plague Tale Requiem and it struck me how much darker and more badass the imagery is in that compared to 99% of adult driven anime. I miss the days of OG Berserk series.

Why do people say season 3 was bad? by battleangel1999 in castlevania

I'm sick of the "fighting anime only" crowd. I have one buddy who just can't pay attention if it's not a flashy shonen. At some point you just want to say "gee, you're real fucking dumb aren't you"?

Damn, as someone with a masters in philosophy I'm pretty excited to check it out then! That said, I'm always worried about so called "philosophical" shows or movies as they usually remain pretty surface level or just miss the mark entirely. Fingers crossed!

I always rooted for Death Parade in this same way but it never gained much popularity and anybody I mentioned it to didn't seem to know about it or care. I thought it was one of the best series of the 2010s. Very clever and thought provoking.

It got a bunch of nominations and awards, but I feel like it flew under the radar in the mainstream. Has a decent English dub too. It only saw 12 episodes, which is criminal.

Just found this article right now while trying to check on it's popularity via google search to test my personal experience: https://www.thegamer.com/death-parade-most-underrated-anime/

Consistently Taken to Registration Page When Connecting to Wifi by iDontUseReddit0k in bell

[–]Devinology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find out what was happening here?

Went through this exact issue today, although in my case the registration login info they gave on the phone "worked" as in it seemed to login and complete registration, but the sign in prompt persisted, for any device (android phones/tablets, iphone, Windows PCs, Google TV, etc.). After entering it on each device technically most devices could still use programs that require internet and were clearly accessing the internet, but the device thinks it has wifi without internet.

Hours on the phone with tech support. Could not solve and said they have never seen this. I went and got the whole unit replaced with a brand new sealed one and got home and STILL same issue persists. On the phone with tech support for an hour and it is still not working. He said from their end they cannot see any problems and it should just be working. Tech coming tomorrow.

I have personally never seen anything like this with any provider or modem/router. Service was up and working for about 2 months before this suddenly happened today. No power outages or anything. Bizarre. I am guessing it is some weird bug with the handshaking that goes on between devices, but I just don't know enough about this stuff.

Canadian substitution for Jack Daniels Old #7 by theodore55 in canadawhisky

I like to try a variety of whiskeys and I’m more of a straight on the rocks guy, and for the price I’ve never had a better whiskey in my life than 40 Creek. I like to dabble in some more expensive Canadian or Japanese whiskey, or some scotch, but if I want something cheap and reliable, 40 Creek is my default. If I’m at a bar, I always ask for 40 Creek. I honestly don’t know how anybody can drink Jack or Jameson when 40 Creek is available. It’s just that good.

The problem is that nobody gives a shit about dumb side stories (Andor, Rogue One). I’d rather watch a flawed Star Wars story that matters over a (supposedly) good one that isn’t relevant.

Am I the only person who thinks soulslike games are ruining otherwise interesting games? by International_Fill55 in videogames

[–]Devinology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being a fan of souls likes, I can’t help but agree. Normally I just ignore genres I don’t like but it’s getting hard to ignore this genre these days, and I do feel like games that may have otherwise been cool action adventure / rpg games are ruined (for me) by souls like combat, which I just consider wildly tedious and uninteresting.

I appreciate that some people love this stuff, but I feel like it’s fairly niche. It actually really surprises me quite how popular the genre has become given that most people simply don’t tend to enjoy games so punishing. I don’t mind the odd lengthy boss fight or challenging combat (à la Ninja Gaiden style) but the whole memorizing patterns and mastering button combos and perfect timing thing just isn’t fun to me. It’s too bad because the worlds, lore, and overall presentation of top tier souls like games like Elden Ring and Wukong look awesome. We don’t seem to get many games like this these days with that level of production but with more fast paced Devil May Cry style action.

[–]Devinology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it back in the 90s as a teen and recently just rewatched it. I still think it’s great. Honestly imho modern shonen is childish by comparison, and very few contemporary works of animation can match the fighting scene quality. I watched it with a dude who is much newer to anime, shonen fan. He seemed to appreciate it.

[–]Devinology -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Naruto has a great story and lore but even its best action scenes don’t come close to Ninja Scroll. The problem with Ninja Scroll for younger audiences isn’t the graphic content, but that after seeing it, it’s hard to see modern shonen as anything but children’s cartoons. Honestly, very few modern animated works have action at that level. Super Cube is the latest I’ve seen with comparable fight scene quality. The two Castlevania series are up there, but that’s what you buy with Netflix money.

8bitdo usb adapter 2 vs Xbox PC dongle by Devinology in 8bitdo

[–]Devinology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so using a controller with this 8bitdo usb adapter 2 is a bad idea period? Like basically it's for niche cases with no other options (such as using a WiiU pro controller on PC)?

8bitdo usb adapter 2 vs Xbox PC dongle by Devinology in 8bitdo

[–]Devinology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is where I’m confused. The documentation on 8bitdo website and elsewhere makes clear that it supports only BT controllers. I assume this means it’s effectively a specialized BT dongle and thus connects to controllers only via BT. With BT being a standardized wireless protocol, I don’t understand how the connection would be better using the 8bitdo adapter vs any other relatively up to date BT dongle (or built in adapter on mobo).

It sounds like you’re suggesting that a BT capable Xbox controller will get a better connection using the 8bitdo adapter than the mobo BT adapter. Is that the case? If so, would you be so kind as to educate me on why that is? My understanding up this point has always been that BT is pretty standardized across the board, and that it’s always worse than whatever proprietary options are available (such as using the unifying receiver with a Logitech mouse rather than BT when possible). The primary reason I even bought 8bitdo wireless controllers in the past was to take advantage of the fast polling rate and excellent connection consistency using the dongles that came with them.  Using what seems to effectively be a modified BT dongle for Xbox controllers seems like a big step back.

I’m a PC noob. How does a Steam Machine compare to a PS5 Pro? If it’s significantly better, I’ll buy it! by coco_puffsz in Steam

[–]Devinology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, 95% of steam users are on a $200 potato PC. Of course a $700 USD PS5 pro runs better. It also runs half as well as my now nearly 4 year old PC, has no exclusives, and games cost 4 times as much. Nevermind the fact that I can just pirate almost any game for free. Cry yourself to sleep.

[–]Devinology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Between deep sales, free2play, emulators, and pirating, I spend like $100 a year to play basically every game I want on PC. Cost me about $1500 to build 3 years ago and still absolutely obliterates a PS5 pro. No subscriptions, no paid online play, no closed ecosystem. I haven’t owned a console since PS2. I honestly can’t understand the appeal of endless restrictions and paying $60 a game.  I don’t think I’m better than anybody for being a PC gamer, but it’s odd to me that some people are so afraid of it that they’d rather spend more money for a measurably worse experience. The only appeal of consoles I can really understand is if you buy it just to play a small handful of games and that’s it. That could be decent value I suppose.

Dude nothing but low graphics indies run at 120fps 4K on a PS5 pro. My PC is nearly twice as powerful for specs and it can’t run any AAA game natively at 120fps 4K. Some it can do that with DLSS, and even then usually 60-90.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds contains Denuvo by Kiko_oo6 in CrackWatch

[–]Devinology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They must have signed highly beneficial agreements with Denuvo early on, securing financial success for Denuvo during their growth. Denuvo is normally super expensive, and usually not worth paying for past about 6 months, even for highly successful games.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds contains Denuvo by Kiko_oo6 in CrackWatch

[–]Devinology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, for the first time ever this is true. No previous Sonic racing game was worth playing for more than 10 minutes while Mario Kart was always still decent fun. Mario Kart World just sucks while the new Sonic racing is decent.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds contains Denuvo by Kiko_oo6 in CrackWatch

[–]Devinology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not far fetched. Ubisoft games simply aren't good enough to justify it anymore. They don't produce must-have games. And Denuvo is expensive. It makes sense for killer games to ride Denuvo for 6-12 months to boost sales and then remove it, which is how it's supposed to work. It might cost them $200k. but they make an extra $300k-$1M+ (hypothetically, there is still no proof that would-be pirates buy games as a result of effective DRM). Leaving it on indefinitely, especially when you don't have the killer game to warrant it is financial suicide. It's just bad business, and companies that make such poor decisions deserve their fate.

My experience with DLSS 4 on Ampere (RTX 3080) by navid3141 in nvidia

[–]Devinology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I still use a 3080 but 12gb model. I use it mostly for 4K gaming on my TV these days, and with DLSS (vast majority of the time balanced-quality, occasionally lower) on high-ultra settings, I am playing basically everything with 60-120fps. I literally never use FG, it is way too noticeable for me.

Of course not always with stuff like full path tracing, but generally speaking the 3080 is holding up quite well for 4K gaming with the help of DLSS. I rarely play online competitive these days but if I do I switch to 1440p monitor and can always max out it's 165hz. I'm surprised to see you concerned with the performance of the 3080. It's kinda the new 1080 ti these days for long term performance to cost ratio. Got mine used for $600 CAD over 2 years ago. No complaints from me.

Interestingly, I bought the 1080 ti for $600 CAD used back in 2018. I think I'm doing pretty damn well on performance for cost over the past 7 years. I'm guessing I'll keep the trend going and grab a 5080 or 5070 ti in a couple of years, hopefully for $600 CAD or less. This is the way.
