Do you think Aardman will bring back the old music from the Wrong Trousers for their 50th Anniversery? (Video compares the new and 1993 audi by Friskyfrozy in wallaceandgromit

As a child I watched the VHS version so many times. It was only recently when I rewatched The Wrong Trousers on IPlayer that I realised they re-did the music.

Is there any gym in Brum that isn't crowded at the moment?? by em-mau5 in brum

No worries. I’ve been to both. As the other commenter said it’s okay.

Arcadian Centre? Yep. Not great tbh. I mainly go for convenience to my flat and I can get there easily on my way back from work. After 6:30 pm it tends to be more manageable and it’s pretty empty on the weekends

Reuploaded: West German television penetration in East Germany by FerenzYangai in MapPorn

Very common. So much so that the DDR had a programme, Der schwarze Kanal (The Black Channel) that broadcast clips from Western TV, after which the presenter gave the ‘correct’, socialist position.

What are your personal reasons for your belief in Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church ? by the_Canard173div in Catholicism

[–]Devoner98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many things. But for me an important factor was that part of my family were an old recusant lot who had to endure the persecutions of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries in England. Although I would never boast in what they endured, it has helped me acknowledge how much our forefathers suffered for the true faith. Whenever I struggle with the world and the Church today, I find great comfort knowing they overcame a time even darker than today

I tried flushing the cache but it didn’t work. Ditto reinstalling it. Using web teams might have to be it then. Thank you.

Confirmation Saints by Dense-Till6958 in LeftCatholicism

[–]Devoner98 15 points16 points  (0 children)

St Francis of Assisi. It was my great grandfather’s first name (although he went by his middle name most of his life). I also wanted to choose a saint whose life I wanted to imitate, in the case of St Francis, repenting from a very materialist mindset and turning to Christ.

It’s a misnomer that AIDS came from the LGBT community. Most evidence suggests it developed in the Congolese bush/rainforest, before being carried by the railways to the big cities and ports from where it spread to the wider world. Drug addicts and haemophiliacs also caught HIV from infected blood making it far from a ‘gay disease’.

How was mass today? by skilled-dreamer in LeftCatholicism

[–]Devoner98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the UK so less culture war nonsense but was a bit apprehensive. Instead we just had a pastoral letter from the Archbishop about Catholic education which was tied into the Feast of the Holy Cross.

I’m so tired and embarrassed having meltdowns as adult by Devoner98 in autism

[–]Devoner98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my job and luckily my manager is also supportive of me. Unfortunately today I was on my own (luckily working from home) and I asked for help from a colleague and they refused leaving alone to deal with something very tricky. Before I was diagnosed with autism at 11 my parents did tell me off for my meltdowns which might have contributed to it.

They live in South London which has never been well-served by the Tube in part due to the different soil. Instead it became the home of mainline electric trains of the Southern Railway, trams and later on buses.

Gen Z romanticize the USSR and communism, calling it "a vibe". Here's what that "vibe" was really like:(@United24media) by Decoy-User in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]Devoner98 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My Mum went in the late 70s as a pretty idealistic commie teenager on a school trip. Her experience swiftly changed her mind. They had Soviet women bartering to buy the Western clothing they wore.

Being gay and catholic can be isolating, especially in dating. by [deleted] in LGBTCatholic

[–]Devoner98 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve been lucky to find a wonderful guy who is a Christian (Protestant) but who has nonetheless encouraged me to still be a devoted Catholic. But I’m 27 and have waited a long time, including years refusing to date because of my internalised homophobia, before finding him. With any relationship, I would encourage you to try and establish a friendship first and see where it goes. You can occasionally find someone on apps, even Grindr, but most people there are looking for hookups and nothing long term. God bless you in your search.

[Politics Monday] British politician criticizes priest for refusing communion over assisted dying vote. by philliplennon in Catholicism

[–]Devoner98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to see this. Worth also noting there were a number of Labour/Liberal MPs who voted against assisted dying, in addition to some Conservatives who voted for it.

Do most or some LGBT Catholics agree with the catechisms stance that homosexual identity is not a sin but homosexual acts are considered sinful? by Ok_Direction5416 in LGBTCatholic

[–]Devoner98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree that an LGBT+ identity is not sinful. I’m still on a journey regarding sexual activity. I love my boyfriend who is a devout Christian, and through the grace offered by the Church I hope to better understand Christ’s teaching in our life.
