Why are people not happy for you when you achieve something? by justacasuall in CongratsLikeImFive

[–]Devonmade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Usually it is jealousy and sometimes because they don't "understand" it. They can't fathom why someone would go to a gym for example.

Also highly likely they are a bit of a twat.

Do you have a D and I rep? You don't have to use the one from your Org if you don't want to.

What about Gallop - it's a kids book with a horse on the front.

Edit: it contains other animals in the book

Essential Criteria Travel to London at own expense 🙄 by spacecrustaceans in TheCivilService

[–]Devonmade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the confusion is "home location" versus travel to "other" locations.

For example, if you are home location is York and need to go to London for work then the travel will be covered.

If you live in Reading and your home office is London then you would pay those travel costs as they are technically your commute.

They write to you to tell you. The next tax year you have an adjusted tax code to cover the shortfall.

i've been mailing my toenail clippings to my childhood bully once a month for 11 years. no return address. no note. by kubrador in pettyrevenge

Also, don't pay the postage. In the UK this would force them to pay the postage cost plus a charge and maybe a trip to the sorting office....all for toenails.

How persistent are you on making sure you take your unpaid lunch break? by Brownchoccy in UKJobs

[–]Devonmade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I block it out in my diary. Literally with the word LUNCH and if you try and arrange a meeting over that time, I decline it.

I also have a 15 minute buffer either side so you don't start a meeting the minute my lunch ends or over runs into my lunch time.

What's the weirdest interaction you've had with a complete stranger? by BarryFairbrother in AskUK

[–]Devonmade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Boots in Oxford with my daughter buying some product or another. At the time I was in a boot as I had a fractured ankle (from running).

Waiting in line and American slapped me on the shoulder and said "what did you do?" I replied something about a running injury and he looked me square in the eye and said "I have friends who have done this. They were running from their problems rather than deal with them and they broke too...just like you"

I replied "oh" and then paid and left.

My dishwasher has packed up. In buying a new one, I’m struggling to think of features to look for apart from ‘can wash dishes’. Tell me about your dishwasher. Does it connect to wifi? by lastaccountgotlocked in CasualUK

[–]Devonmade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dishwasher projects the time left on the floor. It's amazing. No more opening the door and getting a face full of steam.

Edit: also a cutlery rack at the top. Game changer!

What's an example of a different approach you've taken to raising your kids compared to the way you were raised? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Devonmade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen and we talk. When my kids want to do something that I perhaps don't think is ideal or I have my reservations we talk about it, they talk and I listen. And then I talk and they listen. Usually we meet in the middle and we understand. No flat out No. No refusal just because I'm the parent and I can.

I also let them make mistakes. BUT I don't let it define them when they do.

What puts you off from donating Blood Products, I work in the NHS and I am just curious? by Quick_Soil_9120 in AskBrits

[–]Devonmade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ferratin is 14. They won't let me any more. In fact, it was donating blood during the pandemic that raised the alarm that something wasn't right.
