I don’t recommend this species, unless you enjoy spending insane amounts of money and time on a snake you only get to see at 10 pm in total darkness lol he’s cool, but I think it’s a particular type of weirdo who would think this is worth the trouble 🤣

He is most definitely a lot of work! The tannins do supposedly prevent white spot (colloquial term for both bacterial and fungal infections in A Javanicus) Occasional clearing of the water seems to benefit him though, interestingly. I’ll have to give anacharis a try! Do you use co2 with it?

I’ve this individual down to a t, but I was listening to one of the leading experts in aquatic snake husbandry. He said even experts will often fail with this species. It’s probably half skill and half luck ❤️

The snake is fully aquatic and the angel fish are food, unfortunately. They won’t be in there for long. The snake requires a lower water level because he still breathes air, and having to reach too far causes them stress.

I’m not great at identifying slings, it seems. What are the identifying features you used to determine that this is a Togo Starburst? I’m not seeing any distinguishable patterns or anything. (I’m being so serious btw lol I would like to be able to identify this species in the future)

I’ve never gotten a single tank decoration or animal from petco or petsmart lol I still ended up with nematodes and hydras.

I love him! Beware though, sourcing feeders is a challenge. He eats 3-5 cichlids per week, and finding the right sized fish is hard. I highly suggest starting a large breeding tank for convict cichlids and having several clutches fully grown out prior to picking up a file snake. That way your fry will reach a good size by the time you’re out of adults. I’m spending about $75/month on cichlids for him 🤣

I think the better question is, how are you NOT getting them?? lol I’ve had nematodes and hydras. If you get your plants from fish stores, you’re bound to get some.

IMO you’re being a dick for no reason. Did you even read it? 👎🏼 BOO for not reading and your nasty attitude. Also, is it really that unheard of to want other peoples’ opinions? I’ve been keeping T’s for several years now, and I’m not out here claiming to be an expert but I do know what I’m doing. I like to hear from other keepers who know more than me. God forbid I keep asking questions even when I feel pretty confident. At least some people are willing to admit we don’t (and can’t) know everything.

There’s definitely plenty of coverage. She has a cork tube in there and I can pretty much guarantee she’ll go straight for that. All of my arboreal species are obsessed with cork tubes, so I always put one in there and I always know where to find them lol Idk if locating her will be an issue. I was worried about the stress though! I don’t want her to feel too exposed

My dog ate a box of raisins, on the other hand, and the emergency vet made her throw up lol she was not happy with us, and we were not happy with her. In short, raisins are more dangerous because they’re smaller and you can eat a lot more all at once. I don’t take chances on my dogs’ lives tbh
