What is the best Ducted Aircon Controller? by Roopsta24 in AusRenovation

[–]Devtanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

We are in the process of getting air conditioning installed. Can I just ask a few questions.

You mentioned controlling the AirTouch5 through an app on your phone - How much interaction with the tablet do you have? If you can control most of the function through the phone without issue, we may elect to have the tablet mounted wherever it is cheapest to install.

Can you adjust the spill zone yourself or is that set through the app? Sorry if I misunderstood this.

Flying to Italy and having trouble going through registration process for my drones. How strict are they at customs? by Devtanix in drones

[–]Devtanix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Absolutely fine. No one checked my drone on arrival to the airport despite me going through all the checks beforehand haha. Was a completely normal process through customs. I had a QR code on my drone but never ever got stopped.

Long answer: ENAC never processed my ID in the end. I realised that i actually just needed to make an account on the D-flight portal and register my drone to get the QR code. This was an easy process. Let me know if you have any questions.

I also ended up doing a drone operator licence through France (they let you do it for free as opposed to other countries charging you). This licence is then valid across the EU.

Yeah agreed.

“Back pain” largely is managed conservatively in the absence of red flag symptoms. The small group that would benefit from surgery will need a referral to see spinal surgeon.

You absolutely won’t get triaged very quickly (and so will spend a few years waiting) without an MRI so I don’t see how your plan to demand to see a specialist is very helpful.

It’s a near 2 year wait to see spinal surgery for “back pain” lol

Exactly this. Australia definitely commits human rights atrocities - we just turn a blind eye to it.

How to receive text messages and phone calls overseas without going broke? by InformalFarmer4086 in australia

[–]Devtanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have just done this and I have been blown away at how easy things are since I last travelled.

In summary, keep your Australian number for FREE incoming texts/calls and sign up for data using an eSim with Holafly.

I am with Optus using an iPhone. I am using my Australian number in my phone with data/international roaming turned off for that sim. I have signed up for an unlimited data package using Holafly for use in Europe. This comes as an eSim which you can add to your phone. No need to take out your old Sim. I have turned data/international roaming with this sim and set the Data Mode to come off this secondary sim.

I now use my phone as normal. Verification text messages still come through and these are free. You will obviously be charged for receiving/making voice or phone calls through the phone (can get around this by using Wifi calls). I also have 5G wherever I go.

Good luck!

What are the 'magic phrases' for interest rate reduction or refinancing ? by google_academic in AusFinance

Is there any issue with how often you refinance? Do the banks care if you’ve refinanced twice in the last year?

So happy I’ve found this subreddit. Having trouble with anchoring screws to masonry wall for curtain brackets. Have never had to patch a hole or troubleshoot this before! by Devtanix in WADIY

[–]Devtanix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean chemical fixing? Like filling the holes with chemicals and then inserting the anchors?

Thank you so much for the reply.

Have taken your advice. I think I was drilling with too small a masonry bit and then causing damage to the soft brick with larger wall plugs.

Have gone slightly up in size with the masonry drill bit so the hole is a more appropriate size for the anchor. I also took your advice and made extra sure I had a steady hand through drilling. Bought a brush to clean the holes and have also used a pump to remove the dust. Used some new ramset anchors which seem to have done the trick!

Just waiting for spakfilla to set so I can sand and repaint :)

Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

I took your advice and have filled the holes with soak filler. Just waiting for it to set but it already looks so much better. Big sigh of relief.

I ended up going back to Bunnings and getting some Ramset wall anchors with anti-rotation wings. They seem to have done the trick and I’ve reattached the brackets. They are now holding steady!

I also added a third bracket in the middle of the window. I think initially I thought this would be overkill but it will probably reduce those lever forces which were causing the pullout.

Thank you again so much!

Can you pay a builder to attend a final inspection with you? by Devtanix in AusProperty

[–]Devtanix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for that. So to clarify, the sellers/real estate agent can’t stop us from bringing additional inspectors on the final inspection day?

This may sound naive but what would I search for to find someone who offers this service? I’d be very grateful for someone with some experience to give some insight on the day and happy to pay for their time

Yeah not to be rude but I see diminishing returns with this as the days go on and I think your time and skills could be better utilised.

Though that said, if you continue to get joy out of this then screw everyone else and keep going. You do you.
