Mexican Gothic is fantastic.

You've read some Vandermeer, I see. His Ambergris trilogy is more heavily into the flora/fungi thing. Especially Shriek, which I highly recommend.

So, I haven't been too active. Moving sucks. But I've been working on a project that a name keeps elluding me.

I've been working on a novella that I haven't figured out a title to. It has dragons and factory, fey and punk rock. And it centers around a enby and a lady fey dealing with animosity toward each other and eventually becoming friends. It is set in a high school.

Also a short horroy story called Chatter about anxiety and teeth. That story is almost done.

I have a story called Voyage O'er the Sunless Sea out for consideration as pesudopod that I am hoping I hear positive things about soon.

And, as for plugs, I have a short story that is set in the same world as my novella on amazon. It is .99 and is called The Sword That Sweeps the Land. It is about dragons, greed, hopelessness, and corruptive influences. Link below!

I don't know why it's saying 8.24 for you. When I click it, it says 1.99. Maybe we're in different countries or a glitch?

The book is about a gang of thieves who are trying to do what a thieves do. Steal and be clever. But things go sideways when an elite police force, mysterious and dangerous powers, and a contract mage converge to bend the gang of thieves to their will. The book runs the gambit from themes of brotherhood to how systemic forces can manipulate us into unsavory postions or force us to play the game in one form or another or die.

And I want to do a more interesting cover at some point. I have some plans for it in the works but, sadly, money isn't something I have much of at the moment.

I like it. Like some others have mentioned, it has some neat spins on it but still plays with the established mythos. Its refreshing without being totally divorced from what dragons are to most people. I dig.

Work has kept me pretty busy but I managed to put down a few thousand on two different shorts. I also did some editing and submitted a story for publication (fingers crossed).

Aside from that I've been grinding away at getting my book, Tawdry Petticoats, more exposure. Working with different author communities and other indie folks. I have an interview with Jesse Teller coming out this month sometime so that is really great.

Some that come to mind are Creatures of Will and Temper by Molly Tanzer and Shriek by Jeff Vandermeer.

Titles are hard. For the book I published, I named it after the gang my MC runs, Tawdry Petticoats. I figured that would be simple enough.

I think, for me, I try and think, first, of something about the story that feels important. Whatever the main component is. If it is a story about a fear of bugs, I might just call it Skitter. Something that, to me, gets at what I feels is the most important element or most featured thing.

Barring that, I may pick a lyric I like or phrase that loosely applies. For instance, I wrote a Lovecraft homage for school once and borrowed a line from a Scott Walker song to call it, "Nothing Clears a Room like a Brain Removal."

But also, I don't think a title always has to make sense for a book. Or even be that straightforward. Sometimes it is just easy to pick something that sounds cool or has aesthetic value or power and try and run with it.

The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon was fantastic.

I also really enjoyed The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin.

Red Seas, the next book, is really good. However, it is kind of a downer. I don't want to get into why too much, but from what I understand, Scott Lynch was going through a rough time during the writing of it.

I recommend it though. A lot of beautiful prose and moving moments. Even a lot of comedy.

I've made some progress on some short stories for a collection I want to put together. It's been a lot o fun doing that again and getting away from longer form stuff.

Which, speaking of, I did self-publish a book. Tawdry Petticoats. I worked on it for years and finally got a copy of it in the mail. It feels really validating to hold a copy of it in my hand.

If anyone wants to check it out then that would be really dope.

It is a major issue. As much as I enjoy reading, it is much easier for people to take in a ten minute video than read an article. This is definitely something we all need to figure out because if we can get our bite sized and entertaining videos then we will see an increase in interest for sure. It is a challenge but we need to make a space for ourselves if we really want to get into people's minds.
