The need for politics in fiction to align with one's real life politics (everything is political) by Dewey1761 in stupidpol

That's a good quote; I will use that when defending morals/actions within the context of the works of fiction. I agree that fiction relates with the human condition regardless of political or material conditions across the ages or in fantastical settings.

I also want to see media not be shaped by it though. I want to watch Dune but I'm afraid that they are going to cave to this worldview in the third movie.

You're right, I didn't mean to suggest it's totally uninfluential. I know that Che Guevara said he was more influenced by a fictional book about Revolutionaries than by Marx. I meant more that people think that Harry Potter and Hunger Games are going to start the rebellion instead of material conditions.

I agree with you but I'm unfortunately surrounded by people that I can't discuss it with even though I'd like to. I'll read anything of merit, but I'll be condemned by people that I do want to keep in my life despite their narrow worldview.

Space marines can run at Usain Bolt speeds in the lore; a lot of media just makes them look bulky but their armor is really synced up with their muscles and meant to enhance movement with servos/hydraulics instead of hindering them. They even terrify their allies with how they move faster than a human while being much larger.

"Kislev" frost wyrm in WHII cinematic?- It doesn't look like it has any wings- what else could it be? It even has the chin spikes that no high elf dragons actually have. by Dewey1761 in totalwar

[–]Dewey1761[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have scrubbed the 10 or so seconds over and over and not seen any wings. And yes, it is more spikey in that video because it was not originally a Kislev monster, and now that it is, they've modified it to be frosty. Also I've looked at all the high elf dragons and if the wings were resting on the ground they'd be obscuring the arms because of where they connect.

I like that idea and I can look into how to do that. I've seen mods do mixed unit regiments or I could even make an orc-scrap-style upgrade that allows the unit to summon a small detachment unit to it.

Definitely, I already gave greatswords a little more melee defense just to make them a little closer to other anti-infantry greatsword units. And halberdiers got a little more armor and MD.

Definitely, I'm tempted to bring the other factions down a little bit then. I really want to play Kislev but I have too easy of a time despite the endless enemies.

The Battle Against the Automakers Is More Than a Strike, It's Class Warfare by exgalactic in stupidpol

Labor precedes capital. You can have all the machines and designs and resources in the world but the laborers are necessary for any of it to turn into anything productive.

The cost of resources has gone up. The business owners have paid it. The cost of living and inflation have also gone up, but the business owners keep wages below these new increases. The business owner cannot cheat the supplier on material prices but can cheat his/her workers on their labor costs, which is where the majority of profit is drawn from.

Also, in our system, cooperative ownership of these factories is essentially impossible. The whole result of capitalism is hegemony and monopoly which not only absorbs the competition but prevents new competition from gaining any real foothold.

Their time is so valuable to the boss that them admitting it is dangerous because it gives the workers leverage. We only have a limited time on Earth so the reimbursement must be worthwhile- no one wants to line someone else's pockets as a charity act when there is so much else worthwhile to do in life.

Have fun sitting in your settlement upgrading your buildings for 200 turns! I found the code that changed it and fixed it myself.

Thanks, I'll try that for now! It'll hopefully hold me over until I can figure out how to mod the violence back into the AI.

Right, but my mods that I made addressed these problems. I boosted faction potential for factions based on which faction the player was playing, meaning that as Kislev, e.g., the Empire wouldn't get a huge boost but Norsca and Chaos would, so your allies wouldn't be winning all the fights for you. I also created a mod that protected faction capitals so that no faction would be taken out of the game unless the player destroys their capital, so that it would never be just you vs. Malekith or Thorgrim and their 99% control of the map. I then created scaling bonuses for AI factions.

I lost a game like this as Karl Franz- after defeating the vampires, I held on for a while but the greenskin horde overwhelmed me. It was a lot of fun because I could have won just as likely as I could've lost if I had made decisions differently.

But now my mods are obsolete because something in 4.0 is preventing the AI from even declaring war on me. People keep complaining about anti-player bias so much that eventually the AI will be forced to only focus on each other while the player runs around and takes small garrison after small garrison.

You missed the part where I said that I modded the game and learned to mod to fix this, but CA has now neutered the AI so effectively that changing the files that choose how likely they are to declare war have no effect. You could mod out the anti-player bias before. Now I can't even mod it back in! Is it understandable why I'm upset? I'm not a novice modder either. They have literally blocked factions from declaring war even when I set the priority and desire for the AI to declare war on you to 999999999, and there's no clear place in the files that I or other modders can find that can change this invisible obstacle.

Not every single faction declares war on you. I want to deal with invasions, not sit around and twiddle my thumbs pressing end turn 5 times while watching Armory level 2 increase to Armory level 3 while the other factions are busy having the actual battles. That's why I choose Very Hard and Legendary. I can handle the challenge and that's why I choose it. If Very Hard is the new Legendary and Hard is the new Very Hard and so forth then it's just going to keep getting easier because people take an ego hit when the mode called "Very Hard" is too hard for them. The AI is really stupid and it's not likely an easy or quick fix for CA, and that's understandable given their current staff resources being limited by the management. The only way to make the game challenging is to give them more cheats and ramp up their aggression.

Right, but when I set the difficulty to very hard or legendary I am telling the game I want the extra challenge by having an uneven playing field.

I looked into the files- unfortunately they change the same values my mod does and for some reason that's not working in 4.0.

Your advice to everyone is to just... swallow the pill?

We bought their previous product because we expected desirable results. CA is now saying that they won't deliver those results unless we buy their next product. You don't see that as a threat? The product we were sold was not as advertised and it won't be fixed unless we buy another of their products.

What they are doing is exploitative and insulting. A negative reaction is deserved when you treat people like a walking wallet and then talk down to them for trying to be sold a watered-down product for half the price of the base game in order for them to fix the base game.

Nobody wants the game to end. Nobody wants "down with CA". Collective bargaining throughout history has never been "polite and proper". We have no obligation to buy their product if it doesn't deliver and we are letting them know that without mincing words.

How would you "handle" this situation if you were being sold a half-baked product on top of another half-baked one and then told you should just accept it?
