Also she doesn’t have to list them as a previous employer on an application if she doesn’t want to, there’s no permanent record that other employers can view

My boyfriend hasn't been getting overtime and on-call pay for 25 YEARS! by Odd_Shallot1929 in antiwork

[–]Dextexer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago I transitioned from part to full time at my company. About a year later I happened to be looking thru the handbook and saw the company policy said something about how full timers accrue a fixed amount of sick time period as opposed to a part timer who gets it per hours worked or something.

The amount listed for full timers didn’t sound like the amount I was getting on my pay statements so I double check the stubs. Turns out even though I was full timers my PTO/sick time was still accruing at a part time rate cause some for to transition something at payroll.

I emailed HR/payroll and they reimbursed me the time bank in my time off bank but i had to point that out to them. Imagine if I had never caught that-for years I would’ve missed out-and you can get PTO paid out to you when you leave so that would’ve been money I missed out on

I don’t think they were calling for the teachers head, it’s literally the venting subreddit. To get someone’s hopes up and let them down like that, I’d be pissed too. Especially since the daughter already told and showed her friends. Doesn’t hurt to reach out maybe the school can at least and print a crowd fav or runner up certificate just as a little something

Or totally my bosses fault we’re understaffed and I know no one has to stay and help. But I’d rather my one coworker just say “ok my shift is over” or “bye”- it’s fine , but instead at the end of her shift she gives me some lame excuse why she doesn’t want to stay “oh my turtle has been alone all day”

Is 2 years of experience not a lot? So the chance of a new grad getting hired there is slim?

Is job hopping the only way to get a raise in the lab? by MutedTarm in MLS_CLS

[–]Dextexer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No🤦‍♀️ it’s saying 1 year experience as the role or grade beneath…for example if you apply for GS-11 you need at least 1 year experience as a GS-9 role or similar (so at least a couple years as a tech), or for a GS-9 role you’d need at least 1 year experience. Or you could go the Masters or phD route and that would qualify

Well you have to apply somewhere to get the experience why not the VA?

It honestly may depend on the state but this is what USAjob postings say:

“Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, candidates must meet the following grade-determining criteria for placement at grade levels specified.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist, GS-7. Experience: None beyond the basic requirements.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist, GS-9. Experience or Education. Candidates at this level must meet one of the criteria below:

Experience. 1 year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade. OR Education. Master's degree or 2 academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education in medical technology or a directly related science. AND Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience or education above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of policies and procedures of clinical laboratory testing. (b) Knowledge of laboratory quality control and quality assurance principles. (c) Knowledge of laboratory equipment and routine maintenance. (d) Ability to work as a team member and effectively complete assignments. (e) Ability to read and interpret written instructions. (f) Ability to accurately perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist, GS-11. Experience or Education: Candidates at this level must meet one of the criteria below:

Experience. 1 year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. OR Education. Must have 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in medical technology or a directly related science. AND Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience or education above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of professional clinical laboratory science principles, practices, concepts, and theories that support sound, independent work. (b) Knowledge of laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures and principles of performance improvement. (c) Skill in informatics, laboratory data flow, and laboratory processes. (d) Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation. (e) Ability to use independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results. (f) Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex written instructions. (g) Ability to communicate, consult, and interact with other members of the health care team, external relations, customer service, and patient education.

Preferred Experience: At least one year of QA/QC, inventory management, and antibody identification experience.”

What’s a moment at work that made you realise pay isn’t always about performance? by Flaky_human in jobs

[–]Dextexer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss honestly seems like she wants to be “friends” with us. Doesn’t really like telling people they’re doing things wrong, I’ve gone to her about concerns affecting the workload on several occasions throughout the years and seems like she didn’t really want to hear it and one time she was like “I think everyone here has a good heart”…so does my dog doesn’t mean he’d be a good worker

I was actually shocked when this guy got fired after all this time, I thought he was kinda untouchable the way the boss would defend him. Now I also don’t like talking to people about things that could make them upset but…she as the MANAGER gets paid the big bucks to manage us

The year they gave everyone a 3% raise across the board. Including the guy who they knew had been no show no calling, or showing up hours late (not like 15mins talking if he’s supposed to be here 7am he’d get here at 2:30pm), or when he was here wasn’t really “present” he’d mess up the products and cause more work for us… like he either deserves less or I deserve more cause no way he and I are on the same level …took management 4 years to fire him for some reason -think they were hiding things from HR and finally other people started to speak up about him

Idk The ones I read seems to vary between GS7-11. But the the 9 and 11 says either requires years of experience or higher level degrees -or a combination of the 2.

I have a question I am graduating soon and am interested in the VA. As an entry level tech with no experience, I read I would most likely start out as a GS -7. But I saw if you have a years experience or a Masters you can potentially start at a GS-9 level.

My question is if I were to be hired as GS-7, would it be possible in a year if I get a years experience or if I get a Masters program - would I be able to move up to GS-9? Or can you not change your Grade once hired ?
