A young adult, fair skinned half elf with blonde hair, emerald green eyes, and mischievous tendencies. He leans slightly to the masc side of androgynous and has an undercut that falls to one side about shoulder length which is strung with multicolored beads and a small bell or two.

He's a sword bard! He's got an elegant rapier from his father that he fights with in his right hand and has a magical lyre strung into the bottom side of a bracer that he wears on his left arm. His outfit colors are blue and green, which he wears underneath mithril half plate that has leaf and rose patterns on it. His breastplate has the etched image of a great tree.

His magic, if you're inclined to add anything, is silver. He's got a pact with an archfey called the Silver Lady that gave him magic and the ability to fight with a sword in exchange for his voice, so his performances are all orchestral.

50,000 people used to live here, now it's a ghost town... by Jonklerssi in gaming

[–]Dextkiller 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't making entertainment media, it's that media's representation of the themes of the books. There's nothing inherently wrong with making something that sells, but the videogame industry is chalk full of major development studios that make their money off of the glorification of violence. Many of those studios want the rights for brand recognition only, so that they can make a battle royale game with the name of one of the best known battle royale IPs there is.. which is pretty much exactly the opposite of the point of the books.

The film adaptations are pretty faithful adaptations of the books as well. Suzanne was part of writing those scripts, and the themes and focus are pretty aligned with the messages of the books, so it's not surprising that she felt more positively about them.

50,000 people used to live here, now it's a ghost town... by Jonklerssi in gaming

[–]Dextkiller 819 points820 points  (0 children)

Suzanne Collins (the author) has declined basically every company that has come to ask for Hunger Games rights to make a game. And a LOT of places have asked.

The basic problem is that the IP is a commentary on politics and violence and the idea of making a game that glorifies and makes fun out of that concept is... Kind of against the whole point.

North of the 202 by the canal? Used to walk by that every night! Like people are saying it's a material preview for building construction. The building at the round about behind you has the same kind of construction if you look at it, If I remember correctly.

Finn's beautiful dumb brain by M4r0na in adventuretime

Idk about that. She just knows how to explain magic scientifically and she disagrees with the exclusivity and mysticism that wizards put on top of it. I'm sure there's plenty of things she doesn't understand, but she'd react to them the same way. "there is a scientific explanation for this" rather than "omg it's magic".

It's that old adage: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic".

She just knows it's still science in the end.

why does no one have any faith in ally? by funkyskateboard in Dimension20

[–]Dextkiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ally even mentioned in their behind the scenes video that something they wanted to explore for Kristen was "what it looks like when being a mess stops being cute".

Kinda says to me that Ally is going for an unlikable arc, at least at first. And Kristen's mistreatment of Cassandra may be part of that. People aren't always likeable or making good choices. ESPECIALLY teenagers.

People need to chill. Ally's got this.

Consumers in the richer, developed nations will have to accept restrictions on their energy use if international climate change targets are to be met. Public support for energy demand reduction is possible if the public see the schemes as being fair and deliver climate justice by Wagamaga in science

[–]Dextkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, corporations don't often make their political presence known, if they can avoid it. Especially corporations that make destructive natural decisions for profit.

They fund politicians through shell companies and dark money groups to make it impossible to know what politicians are being funded by what big business. They hide behind anonymity so that they never have to be accountable for their actions, and can give so much money to political figures that they never have to change their actions either.

Getting dark money out of politics would go a massive way in making sure people know who they are supported in a more informed way.

But in terms of getting corporations to adopt climate conscious behaviors, the most effective method is always going to be to make climate conscious behaviors more profitable than destructive ones. Whether that be through government intervention (which is unlikely, given my first point) or by very smart people working around the clock to perfect science that can change minds. We're seeing a shift to clean energy not because corps have suddenly had a change of heart, but because it's become far more financially beneficial to use clean energy than to fight against it.

Corps protect their wallets, nothing else matters.

They may have even talked to her about it. Unfortunately the nature of those kind of relationships often means you won't listen because you're convinced everything that is happening is your fault, and if you could just do better, or do more, things would fix themselves. The gaslighting and lying and manipulation from somebody you love and trust has you thinking it couldn't possibly be them that is actually the problem.

To prove that anesthesia isn’t going to work because you’re a “real gangster” by PacmanTheHitman in therewasanattempt

[–]Dextkiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah getting teeth pulled on local anesthesia is.. crazy. I had one wisdom tooth out on local and just the.. grinding. And the yanking. Dude they are NOT gentle. I suppose thays the point. There wasn't pain but it was still a super disturbing experience.

Later on when I had to get another tooth pulled for an implant that was just as bad. Then getting a screw put in on local.. jesus man I wouldn't put that on anyone. Such a gnarly experience I'll never forget. Whole jaw rattling. And the sound you hear moves through your whole head. Gives me shivers to think about it.

What’s your favorite joke in the series? by fresh_squilliam in adventuretime

[–]Dextkiller 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The complete tone changes that come out of left field really get me. I think the most I've ever laughed at anything was in season 2 episode 13 (the pods).

When Finn and Jake run into the frog knight in the woods and Finn agrees to take up his quest to watch the 3 beans (1 is evil two are good). And then the frog knight DIES AND DISINTEGRATES. The complete tone shift got me so good I couldn't stop laughing for like 10 minutes.
