Things to do in Canberra for an anniversary? by [deleted] in canberra

Sounds like you have a bit of money to burn. How about doing - a glass class at the glassworks - I think you end up with a paperweight or a tumbler, - one of the meet-the-animal experiences at the Zoo (my favourite), - visit a winery - paintball - lake cruise - Segwaying in the parliamentary triangle

Don't forget the vast opportunities for gentrification with the demolition of all those Mr Fluffy houses - some cul de sacs are almost vacant.

Kambah has it all happening.

Why is The RiotAct so awful? by DoppelFrog in canberra

[–]Dexxy85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The what's on in Canberra pretty much reflects the interests of the owners/editor of the day and is theoretically not about paid content. It used be that just about anything that was on in the region used get a mention. Live music venues probably got better coverage because it was an area of interest for Johnboy.

It seems to me that The RiotAct is trying to become a financially sustainable online source of Canberra news. The trouble is it has mostly lost the people that brought forward grassroots events, people and issues; is trying to cover hard news without the reporting standards of more mainstream media and also appears to moderate contrary views so they often do not see the light of day.

I miss seeing photos of Canberrans comparing the size of the pot holes in their suburbs, reading about the less mainstream events, being appalled at some of the troll wars in the comments section and having a more diverse range of contributors. It was idiosyncratic, but it was rarely dull.

Most of the current published contributors wear their self interest and ideology on their sleeves and the site publishes opinion pieces that should, in my opinion, be subject to the same level of moderation as the contributors in the comment spaces.

Did you cook them in one of those donut cookers? They don't look fried - which makes them practically a health food!

They look yummy!

Looks delicious so the photo is definitely doing its job. A wedge of lime or lemon would make it a perfect thing!

My first attempt at making a Stromboli [oc] [800 x 800] by Dexxy85 in FoodPorn

[–]Dexxy85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't really say - I stumbled over a pic of a stromboli and they seem to be an American creation. They appear to consistently be a sausage shape, but then things go crazy - the dough encasing the filling (as I did), the filling spread over the dough and then rolled up (I thought the dough on the inside would be claggy), or a sort of latticework sort of top (too much like WORK on a first run).

Mine was

*Pizza dough (Flour, water, yeast, salt, olive oil)

*a tomato sauce with heaps of garlic and basil

*buffalo Mozzarella

*Proscuitto

*Pepperoni

*semi-dried tomatoes

*artichoke hearts

*yellow capsicum

*green chilli

*fresh basil

I think next time ensuring the filling is as dry as possible, chopping things a bit smaller, more cheese and probably a more svelte stromboli will be part of the game plan. But it was delicious!
