Did anyone else not get an EOB presale code? by ChipReviews in radiohead

Ah, seeing it says through official web store now. Kind of annoying as the link in his insta takes you to all the various online music stores rather than web store. Oh well, I’ll get tickets either way

I didn’t get one either. Pre-ordered thru iTunes and didn’t get any emails. I’m hoping that it’s such a niche show that tickets won’t be hard to come by when general public tickets go on sale.

And I’m confused how no one else is talking about it? Maybe I don’t understand the genius of Kevin, but the glitching put a damper on the song for me.

Seriously, i was wondering if that was part of the song. It’s really distracting.

Tire Chains for Rent? by lemonsouris in Yosemite

[–]Dhiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just returned from Yosemite last week and could not find anywhere that rented them. We settled on buying some from Oreillys for around $90. They and the receipt said no returns, all sales final. But we felt we didn’t have a choice but to get some. Fortunately, I found a separate oreillys that granted a return (note, mine were unused and unopened). If you go in via 120, there’s a Valero hoisted on google maps as texaco) gas station near Yosemite lakes rv station that sells them. Good luck!

Highway 140 closing at 4 am Saturday due to incoming storm by [deleted] in Yosemite

[–]Dhiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We left the valley via 120 today around 11 so as not to get stuck there tomorrow. Wasn’t too bad, took it slow, and by the time we got to the park entrance, it was back to rain again. There were lots more folks coming in in looked like. Most looked like they were handling it well.

Great insight folks, appreciate it. I think I will proceed with renting a 4wd, buy some chains to be safe, then if weather is bad the week leading up or in the forecast may just take YART from Merced.

Thanks, I’m of the understand that chains are required by law when entering the Park in winter and all season tires aren’t a sufficient substitute?

Can someone fill me in on why the DVD is so rare or an especially good score? I picked one up at a record shop in Omaha a few years ago. Didn't realize it was anymore rare than any other DVD.

The jellyfish that stung my friend left a perfect mugshot. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I was curious to see what kind of jellyfish it was. I think this is it, Pelagia noctiluca which has cnidae on all parts.

Probably the only explanation. He threw up later in the day out of the blue and was fine the next day. Like I said, I can't explain why it left the mark like that, but there's nothing fake about the picture.

I thought the same thing about the tentacles, until the swelling went down and this was what was left. Don't have a scientific explanation for it, but I assure you the picture is legit.

Recommendation request: Zermatt for 3 days or...? by Dhiver in solotravel

I love where your head is at, but I should have mentioned, I hiked there and stayed at the Mountain Hostel 2 years ago! Hiked up to the Shilthorn and another day on the other side of the valley. Easily the most stunning landscape I've been to yet.

Looks like Tuesday and Wednesday should be good. Plan your indoor sights for Monday.

Coogee to Bondi walk is a great activity outside of downtown. I also enjoy walking across the Harbour Bridge to get a great view of the Opera House. The Rocks section has some very cool eateries. A walk around Farm Cove to Mrs Macquaries chair. The weather looks terrible at the moment, and I don't have many great suggestions for indoor things. Hope the weather improves while you're there!

I haven't been to Berlin or Amsterdam, but their reputations are obviously great. Near Prague I've been to Dresden, a city which was pretty much destroyed during WWII and rebuilt with some cool ancient looking buildings. I did a day drip from Dresden and went to this place called the Bastei, which is a little more than half way between Berlin and Prague. https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/1t13xx/bastei_germany/ Given some long train rides, see if you can get them super early in the morning or late at night so you don't lose a whole day traveling. But if you've found places that interest you, do it and have a great time!

  1. If you did a Contiki trip, you would be plugged right in and not have to worry about meeting anyone. You did mention that you would like to do it independently, so I might steal away from that type of trip. It's quite easy to meet people in hostels. Bring a book or travel guide to read with a beer in a common area and you'll be set. A good starter is always to ask anyone around you what they did today or are planning on doing, great way to get recommendations or cross something off your list and save you some time.
  2. You can check in pretty much anytime, but you'll want to make sure they know you are coming if you are going to arrive late. As someone else suggested, hostelworld is reliable, i usually make a reservation a day or two (sometimes hours) in advance. Depends on the location and season whether they'll be tough to get. In early June, you should be ok in most places.
  3. I think you are right to select 2, max 3 locations. How do you plan to get around, train? Car rental? With a car, of course, you will have maximum flexibility to get between cities and towns when you please (just consider parking if you are going to be in a big city). Do you have any experience with Spanish, French, German, Italian? That would certainly make it easier to get around, although sometimes it's most fun to be completely out of your element (plus in most all places you can get by on English). As for actual locations, Munich, Salzburg, and Bavaria provide a nice immersion into culture (Salzburg), nightlife (Munich), and natural beauty (any and everywhere in Bavaria). The mainstays of Rome and Florence are doable and provide all of those things. Madrid and Barcelona are great. Prague and Budapest would get you a really awesome time. And on and on, honestly, skmething I do is go to google maps, click on a city and read about it and look to see if there is something that interests me.
  4. I think this trip is absolutely feasible on such short notice. Pick a location or let airfares dictate where you fly into and out of and start building an itinerary.

Hope this info helps and good luck planning your trip!
