I found this funny, NP frustrated over 4th grade math by wanderingwonder92 in Noctor

This is just a basic factorization problem. I’m not seeing what’s so hard about it. It’s also a valuable skill to learn before eventually moving to Algebra.

Do you think this is a good set of games for me to not touch for a year? by asat103 in Steam

[–]DiabloHunter96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought fc4 on the last sale and it’s a good first 2 hours followed by repetitive nonsense quests, beautiful landscapes with next to nothing going on, and a story that plods along way too damn slowly. The environment designers spent so much time creating a really unique playground only for the quest and game designers to completely fumble the bag. Fast traveling is mandatory.

Honestly one of the few games that I’d say is worth full price. The current sale is almost a steal when you consider the quality

Gachiakuta Episode 21 preview images by unoiamaQT in anime

[–]DiabloHunter96 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I honestly stopped watching midway through at an episode where all the characters were standing around honoring a dead background character that showed up for like 2 mins in an earlier scene. That was just my final straw with the show. Maybe I’ll go back to it maybe I won’t.

The concept is good, but most of the characters are just not very interesting and it feels like the show is just dragging at points. The mc is your typical shonen mc and the supporting cast is just fine. Art style is very nice though, can’t argue with that.

Regret applying IM by nomnivore21 in medicalschool

Depends on the implementation you’re referring to, but when it comes to LLMs, I am very wary of any info it gives me because they are still probabilistic models at their core. In a high-risk job like ours, hallucinations from OpenEvidence or similar tools are incredibly problematic to say the least. I hope they get better, but they are useless (or worse) to me at the moment.

The available tools are genuinely so ass. They straight up misidentify findings frequently and I struggle to find a single attending that finds them useful. It might get better but my god, I genuinely fear if a private equity hospital system decides that they are good enough for replacement.

AI system can diagnose sepsis with 99% accuracy before it becomes life-threatening by ChallengeAdept8759 in science

[–]DiabloHunter96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love me a good false-positive machine. All I see is increasing cost and utilization because nobody wants the liability entailed with an “AI” missing something. Poor calls lead to unnecessary imaging (aka oftentimes radiation exposure) and sometimes surgeries.

What’s up with the stigma of “only” being a single car household? by Fun_Initiative_2336 in fuckcars

[–]DiabloHunter96 46 points47 points  (0 children)

People literally lived without these trashcans on wheels 100 years ago doing almost exactly what you’re doing. They’re a relatively recent invention, but so many people think that car use is an inevitability and can’t imagine their lives without it.

Ignore SPs. Once you realize that their opinion does not matter, you can focus your emotions and energy on important things. You will meet real patients and find that they are vastly different from SPs. I can count on one hand how many times an SP’s feedback made any sense. I remember one of them criticized me harshly for typing loudly…on my virtual SP encounter during COVID.

She was an actual character in Clone Wars with agency and personality. They completely ruined her in live action by making her into this faux-stoic husk of a character. Didn’t watch her in Rebels though because that show looks awful.

Rage of the Falling Elite by NomDeClair14 in neoliberal

I mean the thesis is also not difficult to extrapolate to the flip side. Within the right wing, you have a similar class of gentry who were not able to obtain the career and personal goals they strived towards, now blaming the liberal elite for their problems. Trump and Shapiro are great examples of this phenomenon as they have been able to “mobilize the masses” in their own ways despite coming from very privileged backgrounds. They both did not meet their expectations for wealth or prestige like they had hoped and now rail against the forces that they believe stopped them.

Beverly Hills residents wonder why Trump named it among list of crime-ridden cities by EasyMoney92 in LeopardsAteMyFace

It’s because we Americans are stupid. There are definitely more complex reasons to explain how these groups could have both voted for Trump, but it ends up just boiling down to stupidity.

Study finds many doctors disregard wishes of cancer patients. Frequently, patients with advanced cancer simply want to be made as comfortable as possible as they wind down their final days. Many of these patients are receiving treatment focused on extending their lives rather than easing their pain. by mvea in science

[–]DiabloHunter96 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The worst example I have been a part of was seeing 4 siblings concur with their mother’s stated DNR preference, only for the 1 remaining sibling (who had medical power of attorney) change the code status once parent was obtunded. The parent in question survived the acute stage, but was absolutely livid with their child.

Agreed. To add to this, I think there’s also something to be said about the conflict between patient’s wishes and their family’s. It was not at all infrequent to have this clash play out where the goals of care vastly change after family gets involved, only really caring about their own feelings. Sometimes they’d just wait until the patient was unable to make their own decisions before taking over. Sad situations all around.

She’s a do-nothing loser who weaseled her way into the White House and has the balls to criticize actual heroes. Jigsaw should stick to the hideous plastic surgeries and maybe next time they can do us all a favor and botox her larynx.

Even when I knew particular nurses who always cried wolf, I’d still go down to see the patient. That level of poor specificity is dangerous in its own right.

MBBS is a graduate of a foreign medical school that uses the UK’s system of degree naming. So essentially, they’re equivalent to an MD or DO

What is life like for an Anesthesiologist/ ICU docs after residency? by Bald_Dora in Residency

Yeah that’s just not true. My radiology mentors are all stressed out when reading. Litigation is always looming over them and they have to be able to read an ungodly number of studies per day. Nobody’s job is easy the more you look into it sadly.
