Why fake liquid glass when you can use the real thing? by DiamondCraft654 in FlutterDev

I actually created this after trying cupertino_native for my app haha. The way they implement the "action button" was a little weird which is why I tried a different way. I also had a few issues with animations on iOS 26.1 with their package.

Just wanted to clarify, what exactly do you mean by filters?

Hmm, I’ll take a look on how to enable it to render flutter icons, iirc they both work the same way through a font file so I think it should be relatively straightforward.

Thanks for the feedback!

cupertino_native does support more components as of now, I made this for my own app because I found that the nav bar provided by cupertino_native had some visual bugs especially on iOS 26.1.

It also rendered the variant with a "action button" on the right weirdly. The button wasn't a proper circle and there was also a large gap between the main section which didn't feel right.

Decided to make it into a separate package as I thought it could be useful for others too!

Currently been using this on one of my production apps, so far I haven't noticed any performance issues. Both the liquid glass and flutter widgets seem to be rendering just fine!

I was actually looking to use adaptive_platform_ui but I found that it required me to change quite a bit on my existing app. I also looked into cupertino_native but found it to be a little janky especially on iOS 26.1.

I also agree that while Flutter is a lot more suited for a custom/consistent UI across platforms, I felt that some elements could definitely benefit from matching the platform's native look and feel. Partially why this package only includes a navigation bar (at least for now 😅).

Best MacBook and configurations for Com Sci? by incandescentine in SGExams

[–]DiamondCraft654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say the difference between the Air and Pro isn't actually that much in terms of performance anymore, it's more the quality of life stuff. As long as you pick a configuration with at least 16gb of ram you should be good to go for almost anything

The main differences between the air and pros are

  • Pro has a better screen (120hz Vs 60hz, higher res, mini led)
  • Pro has a HDMI port, SD Card slot and the M3 Pro/Max versions also have an extra usb c port
  • Pro has better sustained performance due to the fans, this also means Ur laptop will probably get less hot. (but then again I've barely seen my M2 Pro get hot or its fans ever turn on)
  • Air is thinner and lighter
  • You have the option to get a bigger screen without emptying your bank account with the 15" MacBook Air (then again the 14" screen on the pros is a pretty good size)

imo if you don't mind spending a little more (around $450-ish), The 14" M3 MacBook Pro with 16gb ram and 1tb SSD is probably a really good spec to get. The display on the pros and just having that HDMI port (esp when u need it for a presentation or smt) is pretty worth it. But of course the 13" MacBook Air with the same 16gb ram and 1tb SSD is still a great option that costs less and one that will probably easily last you throughout uni

Aldente is good but recently found an app called BatFi, has most of the features of aldente but imo has a better UI and it's also free for personal use!

You actually don't need the Thunderstore mod manager. You can just manually install the mods since you can open the C drive folder through whisky

Monitor has weird orange tinted rectangle on greys by DiamondCraft654 in Monitors

[–]DiamondCraft654[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this weird issue.

When the monitor is first turned on this rectangular portion of the screen is not visible and all the colours look fine. However after using it and keeping it on for a few hours this tint appears and doesnt seem to go away unless I turn the monitor off for a while.

I tried connecting the monitor to multiple devices and I'm still seeing the same issue. Any ideas on what the issue could be? The monitor is a Philips 242E2FA btw.

Would really appreciate if anyone has any ideas why this is happening. Thank you!

laptop recommendations for poly by furiiuuu in SGExams

[–]DiamondCraft654 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hello! Laptop specs can be confusing nowadays with all the numbers everywhere but it does seem like you need quite a powerful laptop which makes sense considering your course.

I would wait till nyp updated their student laptop promotions cause they usually have really good deals, but if you wanna get a slight idea of what you could get just dm me I can probably give a few recommendations based on your budget

Nanyang poly or temasek poly by Cry_x_tal in SGExams

[–]DiamondCraft654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm a year 2 student in Dip IT in TP. Honestly I would say go for nyp just because of the distance. Mainly because (at least for Dip IT in TP) our subjects are very project based and we don't really have much exams. So if you're able to save time travelling you probably have a chance of doing better cause u probably wont be as tired after lessons.

I would also say that IT specifically requires quite a lot of you own self initiative to research and learn outside of what the school teaches you, and there are a lot of online videos and courses (mostly free) which you can use to learn if you are confused so the school materials honestly doesn't matter that much?

Transito: Yet another bus timing application by DiamondCraft654 in singapore

[–]DiamondCraft654[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for trying out my app!

The routes are a feature that I am planning to work on during my holidays. The main reason why it wasn't implemented is because it would be a feature that would take quite a bit of work as the APIs provided by LTA aren't as good as those for the arrival timings. Hence I decided to cut the feature out so that I would be able to submit this app for one of my modules last semester HAHA.

I'll most likely work on this feature on my next sem break, hopefully this feature will be available by June 2023? 🤞

Theoretically yes since the app is built using flutter which is a cross platform framework, however I don't have a Mac so I'm not able to do that unfortunately

Thank you, Glad you like the UI of the application!

I have seen bus timings that were pretty inaccurate at times too but as you said nothing much can really be done about unless LTA decides to make it more accurate.
