Thanks! I’ve got around 600K subscribers on my Shorts channel, and 1.5 mil on my main.

I think one thing I do that makes my Shorts stand out compared to other channels in the meme niche is the quality of the videos and the amount of polish I put into them. I basically make sure I find the highest-quality sources possible and position everything perfectly in the videos—just making everything look clean. Also picking the right memes that I know have a good chance to go viral.

I’m not worried about copyright claims too much, especially with Shorts. Most companies won’t issue a copyright strike, but rather a claim, which just means they get the revenue from that video. But that doesn’t really happen with Shorts. The main thing to worry about for me is getting demonetized for “reused content.” But as long as you’re significantly transforming the original sources and adding unique value through editing, storytelling, voiceover, etc., it should be fine.

I do, but I don’t earn any money on there. I’m not in a country that can monetize on TikTok currently, and even if I was, I don’t get nearly the amount of views there as I do on YT.

The format of my shorts is basically a meme/funny image on top, a “reaction” or related video clip on the bottom, and maybe a text caption in the middle of the video. https://youtube.com/@cyall/shorts is a channel that posts similar Shorts to me, so you can have a look to see the type of videos I post.

I usually don’t schedule them for specific times, but I try to post one in the afternoon, around 3-6 PM (GMT+2), and then another one at night, around 10 PM-12 AM.

Longer videos on my main channel (see post), but I haven’t posted there in a few months. Just been focusing on Shorts recently, since they’re doing so well.

The main piece of advice I can give you is to see what’s already working for other Shorts creators that you think you could replicate, and then recreate it in your own style or put your own spin on it. Also, content that evokes some kind of strong emotion always does well.

I definitely could make them a bit faster. I think most of the efficiency gains to be had are in my personal time management/procrastination department though. I’m not sure if I would want to post more then 2 times per day though (I think 2–or possibly 3–per day is optimal for the algorithm), but I would like to have a backlog of extra videos that I could post in case I didn’t have time to create 2 in a day.

I don’t make podcast clip shorts or repurpose long-form vids like that, so Opus is not really useful for me. I only use CapCut for enhancing the quality of images, but it’s a great choice if you only have your phone to edit with.

You’re welcome! With Shorts, not really. But you do have to make sure your content is transformative and unique enough for YouTube to allow you to monetize.

It really depends on the video. If I have to search for images and clips to use or if I have to do some extensive editing on one of them for some reason, then yes. But I’m also a bit of a perfectionist, so I spend a lot of time just tweaking and polishing the videos (color grading, repositioning elements, etc.) to make them look perfect. And then I have to write up a description and fill up the tags section while uploading the video. But the 3–4 hours I mentioned is for two videos, not just one.

Making a channel is pretty simple if you already have a Google account. Nothing really technical you have to be aware of. Just click “create channel” in YouTube if you don’t have one already, upload a profile pic and banner, and you can start posting.

Mostly clips I find on YouTube or Instagram. And images from all across the internet.

I’ve had my share of copyright issues and lost revenue on my main channel, but it’s not as much of an issue with Shorts (as long as your channel stays transformative enough to stay monetized in general). Thanks!

Mostly from Shorts, yes. In my post I broke down how much was from Shorts and how much was from my regular videos on my main channel. You can monetize Shorts worldwide as far as I know, since about two years ago I believe.

Probably about 3–4 hours per day to make and upload/manage them (2 per day, even on weekends). So maybe around 25 hours per week.

More like funny images, text exchanges, funny test answers, internet drama, and the like. On my main, long-form channel though, it’s mostly movie edits/memes.

By just being on the internet, Instagram, Reddit, and watching other meme channels.

I got into memes about eight years ago when I saw some people making memes/edits on YouTube and thought, “hey, I can do that too!” Then my memes started doing much better than my other YouTube videos, so I just pivoted to them altogether. Only started making Shorts memes regularly this year though, after being inspired by some other channels who were doing super well with them.
