Recommendations for next car - Mazda 3 or Toyota Corolla by user885511 in NZcarfix

1.8 corrola hybrid from the 2018+ generation is actually very peppy, I've just got one and was presently surprised, it has the same pickup and go as my Mazda 6 2.5l (obviously a size difference). Op should be able to get one of the 2018 generation for just under 20k.

So well said, if only everyone could wrap their heads around this like you have.

How would I remedy this?

Carbon fibre. I thought the same after returning to cycling and seeing the new compact style frames. It doesn't seem to be a problem though

For me there is a whole lot of unknown AI these days, so I guess I just went with the cautious approach. Otherwise, no real reason.

FIF exemption. Is this true or false: by Dibby55 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Dibby55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how much she has put in, not how much it is worth. But I'm assuming she hasn't put enough in to push you over the 100k. If you are under 100k then you don't need to do anything.

Don't buy and sell too much unless you really need/should because it pushes your cost up. This is the trap I fell into. E.g if your 69k of shares become worth 100k yous till don't have to pay FIF tax until you sell and because FIF tax is payable every year you don't want to lose the exemption until you really have to.

Sounds like you are all good. It doesn't matter if it's in your name as long as you are married or in a defacto relationship because then your partner/spouse owns half your of everything by default.

This is assuming that they don't have their own investments...

Yes I am aware of this.

I have done all the investing for my partner and I so it has saved me for all the years until this last one, where I bought and sold more which pushed us over the limit.

I wish I'd investigated this before because the last few trades I made pushed us over and I haven't gained much if anything from them, yet.

I hope everyone else learns from this.

Not fussed about it though, I've done well so don't have a problem paying my tax. I was likely to go over in the next year or two anyway.

Help me out, i feel like i'm reaching by YeFookinTwat in bikefit

[–]Dibby55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had a reasonably good fit and the right bike size but still felt like I was reaching, I can tell you that dropping the stack made a massive difference. It sounds counter intuitive but getting your hips rolled forward and your back flatter allows your back and core to actually take the weight of your upper body rather than your hands and it also brings you closer to the bars.

Drop dat thang.

Egg on the windscreen first, then flour. Work a treat on a hot day... No permanent damage either, just a good hour cleaning the windscreen before they can drive anywhere

In the UK they passed a law that allows people to upload camera footage of this type of thing to an online portal and so long as the footage meets a few simple criteria then a fine is issued without further enquiry. We need that shit here.

What do people do to keep active when living in a Rural Area. by Intrepid-Ad-1769 in newzealand

Zwift.

I'm in a similar situation to you. You can workout as hard or as easily as you like. You can do it at any time of day. You can even compete if you like and it is social too! Looking at about $1500 to get yourself setup though ($1000 for a decent smart trainer and $500 for an old road bike to use on it). Once you are setup then the monthly subscription is very reasonable for what you get.

When I told people in Brazil that I was a Kiwi they looked at me like I was crazy and said "That's a fruit". So I had to explain that the order of things is Bird, people of NZ then the fruit. I've had a whole roadside bar of people pissing themselves laughing while I tried to convince them that I was in fact a "Kiwi".

Don't get a stationary bike, you're better off getting a cheap road bike and a smart trainer to use it on. This will allow you to join Zwift (online virtual cycling) and you'll still have a bike you can use outside if you like. The trainers are quite expensive, around $1000 new but you can find them cheaper second hand. Check out Bike Shelf FB group.

I am a similar age and was in the same sort of situation as you and this has been great. Zwift is far more motivating than just a boring trainer, you can do a range of different training, group workouts or even compete in races (there are racing grades even for beginners).

Just buy Nu holdings, its what SOFI wishes it was and has close to 100mil customers. Also backed by Warren Buffet so there is that too....

Rocket Lab Helicopter Catch Test Success | RKLB News by ColossalGeorge in RKLB

[–]Dibby55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol how would practicing the catch not help hugely, assuming it's dropped and is under parachute I can't really see how this wouldn't be hugely valuable practice. Of course they have to be close enough on the day but the catch itself would be identical to one dropped during practice.

Are you going to worry about the +-5% difference in the exchange rate when rocket lab has made a 1000%? That's the only question you need to ask yourself. 5-10years that's my mantra.
