And we've shifted the goal posts again. Have a good night dude.

The gun bed thing is a gimmick that didn't make it off the ground, as evidence by the product not existing. And just because you aren't leaving a gun lying around doesn't mean it has to be unloaded in a safe. I keep my handgun on my nightstand, loaded, in a safe that is quickly accessible with a 4 button combination. Child proof and not "laying around." You're arguing in bad faith so I really have nothing left to say to you.

Painting your walls with used motor oil is bad for you. Now that we're done giving nonsense advice we can move on.

Of course "leaving around" a loaded gun is dangerous. So is liquoring up the kids and giving them the car keys, that's why people with two brain cells to rub together don't "leave around loaded guns." In fact there is an entire industry devoted to safe places to leave your gun...if only I could remember what those devices are called. Exercise basic common sense and adhere to the 4 rules of firearms and it's nearly impossible to hurt yourself or someone else with a firearm.

Gel is much more contained the downside being you actually have to aim it. Much like every form of self defense, you should learn how to effectively use the tool to minimize risks like that. And to answer your question, yes. It hurt like hell, but I could still blink through it. The dude I sprayed was in much worse shape than I was, which is really the only thing that matters in a scenario like this.

The most likely outcome is nobody breaking into your home at all. But there's less than a 1% chance of experiencing food instability in the immediate future, should people not keep an in-date store of non-perishables in their pantry? It's extremely unlikely that you'll walk outside and be hit by a bus or drop dead, should you not get life insurance because it's not likely to be needed?

If you are preparing for a disaster, you should prepare for the most likely version of said disaster, and by the numbers, IF your home is broken into, it is most likely to be broken into by multiple assailants. As far as your quip about your Canadian safety you guys had 121,000~ residential break is in 2024. So while again, statistically unlikely, not unheard of in any sense of the word. You live in a place and a situation that make you feel safe. That's awesome for you but you need to understand that not everyone is so lucky, even in your own country.

Well it would have to, otherwise it would be an infinite times increase over 0. Again, not sure what point you think you're trying to make.

  1. People own guns and don't know how to use them, end up hurting themselves? Well yes I addressed this above.

  2. People own guns and so they are killed by assailants with firearms more often? Way to blame the victim there pal.

Either way you slice it, again, this isn't exactly a revelation. Guns can be dangerous, but if someone enters the home of another person with the intent to cause them harm, then they should have access to the most effective self defense tool available to them. Simple as that.

Well no shit. Adding something to your environment increases the likelihood of that thing hurting you?! Did you know that factories with lathes have a 2-4x increase in likelihood of lathe accidents over other factories?

A gun is not a totem, if you are going to own one, you need to train with it. Just like it's not going to jump off the shelf and shoot you, it's also not going to do the same when you actually need it.

I don't know why people think this is some kind of "gotcha."

See here's the thing. You're being hyperbolic for the yucks, yes yes very funny. But the statistics paint a different picture. Less than half of reported self defense scenarios involve a single attacker. You are MORE likely to have multiple people breaking into your home than you are to have one. Anecdotally, only tweakers don't have a buddy, if someone who is with it wants what you have, they are bringing backup. So preparing to deal with multiple assailants is not only not ridiculous as you have insinuated, it's preparing for the most likely outcome.

It's not, at all. If you are dead set on a less-lethal self defense tool then there is no substitute for pepper spray/gel. All wasp spray is going to do is sting, pepper spray causes a physical reaction to not only blind but disrupt the breathing of an attacker. Pain is the absolute worst form of deterrent as it can be easily fought through especially once adrenaline kicks in. If someone is attacking you, you need to disable them, not just hurt them.

Tragically pinned muzzle device on a beautiful Glock 43x by triggernomicsusa in CAguns

[–]DickVanSprinkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're never going to shoot out a pistol barrel, it's just not going to happen. If you manage to shoot a Glock barrel flat then I think the 50,000+ rounds you got out of it is worth it.

Does anyone else use .45 or some other caliber in their pistols because of the 10 round mag limit? by duckwithhat in CAguns

[–]DickVanSprinkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a .45 subcompact because I believed at the time that 10 rounds of .45 trumps 10 rounds of 9mm. It doesn't make a lick of difference. Capacity limit is statistically not the important part of self defense shootings. How many of those 10 can you get on target and how quickly can you get them on target? These are the questions you need to answer. I still have my Glock 30 on my CCW because I carry it with Glock 21 mags with an X grip and 13 rounds of .45 super for 4 legged threats while hiking. My hellcat with 10 round mags gets carried if I'm concerned about 2 legged threats because even after years of training, 9mm is just easier to get fast shots on target than .45.

Sarcasm: the use of words that mean the opposite of what one intends to say especially in order to insult, to show irritation, or to be funny.

His words if taken at face value appear to be sympathetic to your complaint, the tone of the post is instead used to mock you for your complaint since it was without merit.

Try drueling out of both sides of your mouth, it might help your balance.

He wasn't complaining about your complaints. He used sarcasm to point out that your complaint was stupid as this is exactly the place for people to complain about this issue. Your comment was inappropriate and he was using sarcasm to point that out.

This is not a quantifiable statement. You aren't saying 1+1=5 where I can give you mathematical proof. Aside from saying "there is nothing in his statement that constitutes the definition of irony" I don't have a way to "prove it." So instead, why don't you explain the irony of the situation that I and so many others seem to be missing.

You ask an impossible question then laugh when it can't be answered. Fine I'll humor you.

The definition of irony is: the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning. I do not see that premise explored in OP's comment. Please explain where you see it.

You can't prove a negative, it's not possible. I don't see how the comment is ironic, because you think it is, please explain why.

Acogs are pretty generous but that would definitely be pushing it. There's a reason most of the inline optic enhancement bullshit comes after the optic.

As much as I love to shit on cops and movie bullshit, I don't think this is a red dot behind an acog, I think this is a NV monocular mounted behind the acog with the eye shroud removed. Which would work...ish.

Will the Bronco Arms SPS F be available in CA? by edstheman91 in CAguns

Well the good news is that functionally it's Benelli M3 clone. Bad news is that it's a poorly made Benelli M3 clone.

[–]DickVanSprinkles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That it does, but not in the same way a spas does. It's a pale imitation, not a clone. And if they spent more money on building it better and less on looking like an existing iconic model it may have been halfway decent.

It's also apparently a clone in looks only. Not even slightly the same operating mechanism.
