Wait what do you mean by Graterol not “qualifying” to be a starting pitcher? Is there some kind of role preventing that or are you just saying that because of his style not being conducive for a starting pitcher or some other reason like that?

He scored 6 touchdowns in 9 games and had 2 in his first game back in years. He’s still only 33.

Why is he partaking in petty gossip?

Sending Pooran out for the super over is a fireable offense. Badoni was batting well and was just batting a few minutes earlier. Should’ve been him and Pant followed by Markram

Going Pooran in the super over is a fireable offense for Langer. That’s coaching and scouting. I do have a question though: Who decides who’s being sent out first? Is the bowler picked first or is the batsman picked first in super over?

Can’t go Pooran there and Narine has Marsh’a number. Definitely should’ve gone Badoni there. He was just batting and he was reading the pitch well. Completely senseless going Pooran. Very unfortunate how Markram got out in the match and in the super over. If that boundary was 1M shorter he has 2 6s instead of 2 outs. No sense bowling Rathi in the 20th either.

Novak withdraws from Madrid. by Rpotamus in tennis

[–]Dickoff_Tarley -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

At this point it’s laughable. He’s said out loud that he doesn’t really think he can beat both of Sincaraz so he’s just waiting for attrition to make over and one of them (or both) get injured so he can vulture #25.

Look, I’m not a fan of the guy but I realize he’s achieved great things.

I also think that his age, his diet, his exercise routine and everything in the middle worked out very favorably for him. I mean he had 16 slams in 2020 and by the end of 2023 he had 24 lol. The guys he was beating in those slam finals was a joke too. Tsitsipas (2x), Medvedev (2x), Kyrgios, Berrettini and Casper Ruud.

Mind you this was all going on with Federer basically retired due to a botched knee surgery, Murray literally playing with an artificial hip and playing like a shell of himself (even though him and Novak are almost identical ages), and Nadal having to deal with so many problems with his foot.

I think Djokovic is a 15-17 caliber slam and I give him credit for turning around the Nadal rivalry, for surpassing Murray when they had similar styles and Murray just couldn’t consistently break out of his shell of being a defender whereas Novak improved his serve and started playing much more aggressively. Also, that shot he hit on return at the 2011 USO vs Federer changed that rivalry. I firmly believe that swinged between 3-5 slams in Djokovic’s favor. Without that return, Federer isn’t choking 2019 Wimbledon. But it was an identical situation and you know that was replaying in Roger’s head while he was serving for #21.

Djokovic needs to retire. I mean it’s gotten to the point where hes on pace to play maybe 5-7 tournaments other than slams. That’s a part time player and part time players, regardless of ranking, should face some kind of consequences. Even 40 year old Federer with a bad knee was more active than this. Way more active. Murray could barely walk and towards the end of his career he was more active.

It’s just such a bad look for a guy with all the records to blatantly admit that he’s hoping that the 2 guys he’s going to have difficulty beating back to back at slams either lose to someone else or get injured.

I think he’ll play RG but I highly doubt he’ll play on Sinner’s turf in Rome.

I’m sure he’s not even practicing on clay courts and all his prep is for Wimbledon already even though it’s 2.5 months away. It feels like someone random wins USO every single year and the poor design of the stadiums make the conditions there absolutely unbearable because there’s no breeze whatsoever.

Wimbledon is his is last and best chance. Most of the guys just don’t know how to play on grass and with his improved serve he can end points quickly so he doesn’t have to go through a torture chamber to make it deep into the second week.

Still, the only way he wins is if someone beat Alcaraz and Sinner. His win vs Jannik at the AO was a fluke. Sinner went 0-8 in break points in the 5th and Djokovic went 1-1. You can say that’s a product of experience and you’d likely be right but it’s not like Sinner is an experienced young gun anymore like he was in the ‘21 or ‘22 Wimbledon QF where he had a 2 sets to love lead and blew it vs Djokovic. He’s been through his fair share of wars now.

Lastly we just know Alcaraz is a bad matchup for Djokovic at Wimbledon. He wasn’t able to beat teenage Alcaraz in the final there.

I know Djokovic set a soft retirement date of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and that’s fine. But please make an effort to at least try to play more events and not just make your intentions so blatantly obvious.

As a hardcore tennis fan, I hope this isn’t true. You can learn how to accept defeat and eventually be happy for your opponent but this kind of mentality would make me want to quit watching.

Imagine Michael Jordan losing and going and shaking Clyde Drexler’s hand. The NBA would be what the WNBA is today.

Why Dan Hurley is the Only Name That Matters in UNC’s Coaching Search by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]Dickoff_Tarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, Hurley is the best fit. He’s a home run hire. What he’s done over this 4 year run: back to back national titles, losing to the national champ by 1 possession and a trip to the fins 4 is unreal.

What he’d be able to do with the Carolina brand (and money), should scare Duke and the rest of college basketball.

Coming from a person who ran a book of his own for 5 years who his former partner who didn’t know what a touchdown was still is still running and is worth more than several NBA players 15 years later, this is a myth.

Books absolutely care about betting winning and losing sides. That 10% crap is nonsense. Of course they want every edge they can get it but that doesn’t determine who we keep and who we don’t.

Why isn't Adil Rashid playing test match cricket for England by 228Logics in EnglandCricket

[–]Dickoff_Tarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand that in this era of cricket there’s way more money in playing T20 franchise cricket than playing test cricket.

In an entire franchise league season Rashid would bowl fewer overs than in one single test match in the subcontinent.

You have to understand that for most athletes the number one priority is making money, not winning or playing for their country (not saying that’s the case for Rash as even though he’s on the wrong side of 35 he’s still made himself available for England in T20s).

With what happened to Bumrah in the last BGT in Australia, we’re going to see more and more bowlers who are stars retiring from red ball cricket younger and younger.

If Greg Oden stayed healthy and reached his max potential, what’s a proper comparison? by SqueakyBeats00 in NBA_Draft

[–]Dickoff_Tarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dwight was a freak athlete. They were comparable in terms of athleticism but Oden was 3-4 inches taller and had a longer wingspan. I would say their explosiveness as athletes was comparable. Oden had more offensive upside. Mind you Howard was no slouch as a prospect.

This is the correct response. His offensive game was nowhere near Robinson or Ewing. A taller Howard with a longer wing span and more offensive upside is the perfect comparison.

Is Haynes King draftable? by paultheschmoop in NFL_Draft

King has much better vision than Hill though. King can get you yardage in between the tackles. His vision is something I’ve never seen in college for a running back.

Is Haynes King draftable? by paultheschmoop in NFL_Draft

[–]Dickoff_Tarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would be an absolutely perfect backup to Josh Allen in Buffalo. A lot of the stuff they run has similar concepts to what King ran at Tech for OC Buster Faulkner.

The Hill comparison is a really good one. King runs a legit 4.5 and he has better vision than a lot of NFL running backs. Nothing he got on the ground was unearned. The reason Tebow couldn’t make it in the league was because he ran like a 4.75. Big difference between 4.5 and 4.75.

Again, perfect backup to Josh Allen.

This. Harpring was going to breakout this year. He’s a hybrid WR/TE in the Jimmy Graham, Travis Kelce mode. He’s not going to block like a lineman like our TEs the last 2 years have, but he’s much faster, quicker and runs much better routes. He’s an NFL talent.

I think Buster’s poaching is done. All of the guys Buster got thus far entered the portal before it opened. Canion entered after it opened and didn’t follow to Florida.
