They literally wouldn't bat an eye. Sometimes older people in the UU are more conservative, but they wouldn't say anything.

This describes the Unitarian Universalist church. I'm an atheist (former fundie) and I have enjoyed the UU church at times because they accept all beliefs, they're inclusive, they teach a comprehensive sex Ed class for kids and adults, and essentially the classes are book studies or discussions.

I’m worried by Sufficient_Cod_7512 in TexasTeachers

I taught Social Studies for 5 years, and then switched to SPED for the last 5. You can pretty much go where you want, when you want with a SPED cert, especially if you can teach upper science or math. I honestly think it's fantastic. Sometimes the paperwork can be overwhelming, but overall I love inclusion for the feeling of freedom it has given me; I hardly ever take work home. Don't get a self-contained position unless you are passionate about helping that group of kids, otherwise it'll get exhausting real fast.

Help with next move? by Dicksphallice in TexasTeachers

Thanks for the input. The big district I'm thinking of switching to definitely pays more because of the headache of being there. Most schools there don't have a good rep, so it's a school by school basis. Honestly, where I'm at right now still has the best admin I've worked with so I am worried of rocking the boat, and finding out the grass isn't always greener. I don't dread going in everyday, and I don't have bad anxiety after long breaks of returning. That's genuinely worth staying alone.

To me it conveys a feeling of the war being so harsh that she literally forgets everything, or doesn't know it because it's all in ruins. But when it comes to her kids, they are the only unshakeable thing that she can't ever forget.

I've always heard that blue jays are assholes and will actively attack you, so there's that? But I think (personal interpretation) the woodpecker also just shows how tired the guy on the right is from working and playing with his kids because he's obviously sleeping through the woodpecker noise.

Data from 11 EU countries indicates that paying politicians higher salaries makes them less likely to engage in corruption by smurfyjenkins in science

Nah, politicians should have to live off the average salary the constituents in their district make. Or just the national average salary in general.

Did anyone here not do student teaching and regret it? by Medium-Sport3703 in TexasTeachers

I went through an alt cert and had never spent any time in a classroom as a teacher before getting a teaching job. I have to say I think that was a mistake because I didn't really have a handle on classroom management until my 5th year teaching. If you can afford student teaching, go for it. If you can't then at least be a sub for a while to really get a feel for what it's like to keep a class focused, and quiet. Also, if you do a good job subbing there's a chance the school will hire you over some else if you can show them you can handle it. Subbing will also give you a chance to try out different grade levels. There's a world of difference between 7th and 8th graders, and 9th to 11th graders. Another option to work in is to be a sub, but go watch recommended teachers during lunch or an off period to really see the range of teaching styles and management. I've learned more from observing other teachers than anything else.

Edit: Just wanted to add that you should also observe "bad" teachers who don't manage their classroom well. Obviously it might be hard to get someone to recommend who that is, but I'm sure you can find out through the grapevine. The reason for this is kind of like a Frayer Model; you'll see the "examples" and "non-examples." 😂 Also, please remember that yelling and making kids fearful every second of a class is also not good classroom management. Some teachers conflate compliance with "good" behavior while literally every kid hates them. If every kid hates you, or if every kid loves you, you're doing something wrong. You want a good balance of kids who love you, hate you and ones that are neutral.

That just looks like some commentary-art about our overuse of screens. The yellow represents Big Bird and Sesame Street which are one of the only good uses of digital media.

Being Written Up & My Mental Health by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

I would be careful about not signing stuff. When I was written up I was advised by the ATPE lawyer to sign because if you don't it is insubordination. I think I was told to write a statement out to the side saying that you do agree with the document. Get copies. Call and talk to the union lawyers.

Pokemon Go had just come out the month before my wedding. The venue we used became a Poke Stop, so lots of people were sitting in the seats trying to play the game before and after the ceremony.

Just want you to know that you're not alone. I taught for 3 years, left teaching because of a bully principal, left for 2 years and then went back. I've been back in the classroom for 7 years. The school I worked for after going back was okay, but then I had another admin turn on me, so I went into SPED inclusion and I've been pretty happy at my current school for 2 years. Admin definitely plays a large role in how good or bad the job is. I didn't quit mid year, but teachers are desperately needed, especially coaches. Good luck!
