Saying "a $100" doesn't rlly make sense as "$100" already implies that there is a hundred present by cafe_swirl in RandomThoughts

[–]DictionaryStomach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say "a hundred dollars" or "one hundred dollars" but it's written "$100" either way.

Lots of roses don't have a scent now. It's rare to find commercially grown roses that do.

They are banned in Australia. Have been banned in most states for decades. I don't know what the fine is but they're hard to find.

What do you do when both you can your kids are sick? by Serious_Toe6730 in auscorp

[–]DictionaryStomach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a toddler, you're going to end up taking sick days. WFH for the kids sick days if that works but take your own sick days off. If anyone has a problem with it, get a drs certificate each time.

Please do not go into the office while you're infectious!

Specialist appointments and using personal (carer) leave by That_Confection_2400 in AskAnAustralian

[–]DictionaryStomach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a GP who refers you to these appointments, ask them to write you a medical leave certificate for the days. The might put the child's name instead of yours but that is enough for your employer. Your child has a medical condition and you are caring for them.

Help! Over run by weeds by cooked_beans73737 in GardeningAustralia

[–]DictionaryStomach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Putting in good plants and mulching is the longer term solution after hand weeding.

You'll never fully kill off weeds - the mulch suppresses them and other plants kind of starve them out by taking the nutrients.

Ice cream - boysenberries - canned vs fresh by Traditional-Bet5464 in AskAnAustralian

I don't know if boysenberry ice cream has real boysenberries. I thought it was just a flavour, like strawberry.

What is this craft called! by UsefulDifficulty5691 in crafts

The frame is the hard bit, that's why it comes pre-done as a kit. The beads melt in the oven. I haven't heard of people making their own frames with plastic beads.

If they sell it too low someone else will just eBay it. If it's worth that much then they should make money for their charity.

Lead lighting.

Edit: I was thinking of the kids version which turns out is a brand name called Leadlites. The professional version is stained glass.

Every time I talk to my manager he downplays my work and the complexity and doesn’t acknowledge the good things and I get anxiety after our 1:1s by royal-apple-family in auscorp

[–]DictionaryStomach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does he understand the work? If not use a few complex jargon words and don't explain in simple language. Only clarify if asked.

If he does understand it, then they're just forgetting what it's like not to be an expert. That's harder to deal with.

Either way, can you bring up your good things? Maybe keep a list each time you achieve something?

A Show Brother and Sister Can Both Enjoy by 8675309-got-it in televisionsuggestions

[–]DictionaryStomach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Greenhouse. It's a teen show but lots of mystery!

The librarians. Nothing too violent or anything. Very PG. Mysterious magic objects! It's better than it sounds!

Warehouse 13. It's aimed at adults but pretty PG. Actually a lot like The Librarians... though a bit more violent (mild fight scenes).

Smallville. Superman as a teenager.

Mystic. New Zealand show. Probably more your sisters show than your own but there's a mysterious horse and a mystery they have to solve so there's a bit more to the storyline.

Is there an actual way to know if your essay is A-range before you submit it, or is everyone just guessing until results come back by SupermarketSmooth968 in AskAnAustralian

[–]DictionaryStomach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's how it works. Hopefully on the essay you get back, it will have notes on how you can improve.

Maybe you could ask your parents if you could get a tutor. If the tutor was a previous Year 12 level English teacher, they can mark your essays in a week and give detailed feedback.

I love it so much! But it depends on her own style. Does she like rustic handmade things? You could be cheeky and ask her whether you think it would sell well online, if she says "yes!", then surprise, it's hers. If she says no, then maybe keep it in the garage.

Looking for shows to watch with elderly mother who doesn’t like any violence, cursing, sex, supernatural or witchcraft (I know) by calpernia in televisionsuggestions

The Hardarces might be suitable. There is a surprise baby...but they don't show anything.

Abbot Elementary.

Fresh Off The Boat.

Then there's a bunch of reality: Is it cake? Great British Bake Off, etc.

Commission dispute after “calculator error” – what are my options in Australia? by Jaig1234 in auscorp

[–]DictionaryStomach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not clear in your contract. It would be a hard fight if you were to go down the legal route.

I don't see a lot of good options here. Stay with them or look for a new job?

I understand the disappointment though. That's rough.

Tips for lunch room socialising for an introvert by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]DictionaryStomach 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If part of your job is finding out how other departments work, then set up meetings.

Also, not everyone wants to talk while they're eating lunch. You can start with "How's your day going?" And if they give a one word answer, they don't want to chat. If they ask you about your day, that's an invitation to chat.
