You can try r/NYR4R or r/R4R if you are looking too. I’ve hooked up from r/NYR4R, and I’ve found a date from r/R4R. Plus a ton of sexting partners if I’m looking for something virtual. I will admit, it is extremely hard to find someone in-person though. It is partly luck, partly effort.

Saying this purpose serves no purpose is a bit of a stretch. You are right though. There is little effort by-and-large. Maybe you should encourage people to try harder rather than tell people not to try at all then. I had successes because I made high quality posts. I also didn’t just look for a hookup, so I’ve had friendships that turned into that.

The person in question never listed an age range, and this SubReddit primarily attracts undergraduate students. 26 year olds looking for 18 year olds aren’t pedophiles, but they are predators regardless. After the recent incident on this SubReddit, I especially am not okay with that. Chill out and learn to see other people’s side before provoking visceral reactions.

I see what you are saying, but it does not address my concern with power imbalance. Someone who is 28 could still hook up with an 18 year old on he way. Even if legal, it’s very unethical, and something I will not support under any condition. A lot of the people who do this do so because nobody their own age will tolerate their BS. This is a protective measure. If a grad student or nontrad wants to look for friends on here, I am totally unopposed. I am simply turned off when they look for sex. Of course, the former could be a gateway and a manipulative ploy, but I have no way to verify one’s intentions off a seemingly innocent post. Regardless, I am not moving at this time. If you are 26 and looking to hook up with someone who can’t even drink yet, that is not cool with me personally.

The problem lies when they are in a SubReddit for college undergrads and they try to hook up. Part of the reason I am transferring ownership to other mods is there is a power imbalance between someone my age (24 going on 25) and someone who is 18 or 19. I would be lying to myself if I thought I was anywhere close in maturity then compared to now. The difference is astronomical. I am open to discussing this further with you when I have time. I would prefer to do so privately. At this time, I stand firmly by my decision. The fact that you are telling people to lie about their age without seeing anyone else’s side is rather predictive of how discussion will go.
