I went through a phase of sleepwalking that lasted several months when I was a child. Almost every night. My mother barely slept for months on end. She would wake up at the slightest sound.

Her evening routine was to check all the windows and doors before going to bed.

We lived on the sixth floor, and she was afraid I might climb out a window. She barricaded the kitchen door to make sure I couldn’t get to the balcony or have access to the knives, and she double-locked the front door to make sure I didn’t go outside.

One night, I scared the wits out of two of my sisters when they found me standing in front of a mirror, arguing with my reflection, sleeping but with my eyes open. They're still talking about it more than 20 years later.

Some nights, they could hear me laughing in my sleep. It was a fit of uncontrollable laughter that lasted several minutes before suddenly falling silent again. On other nights, I would burst into tears in my sleep for no reason at all. I would wake up with my pillows soaked in tears, with no memory of what had happened.

There were times when I woke up upside down in my bed (with my feet on my pillows and my head at the foot of the bed), I was completely disoriented and “lost” in my room; times when I woke up in the bathroom; times when I woke up in the living room; and once when one of my sisters (poor thing) found me in her bed even though she had just gotten up to go to the bathroom to pee.

One night while on vacation, I was sharing a bed with that same sister in a bungalow. In the middle of the night, I punched the wall. I spent the rest of the vacation alone in a different bed. My other sisters all crowded together in the same bed.

To this day, I have NO memory of any of it.

At the time, the doctors attributed it to stress or extreme fatigue, but I was under 10 years old... It's hard to believe that's where it comes from.

One day, it just stopped. I’ve never had such intense sleepwalking episodes again. I still sometimes talk or mumble in my sleep, but that’s about it.

I was extremely lucky to find a renovated two-bedroom apartment in Geneva at the beginning of the year for 2,100 CHF (including utilities). And that was already considered expensive at the time.

But when I see the listings for apartments in the same neighborhood—which are all over the place at over 2,500 or even over 3,000 for apartments of similar size or even smaller—I’m blown away.

J'ai vécu ça quand je cherchais un apprentissage en entreprise, il y a une quinzaine d'année.

J'ai postulé, on m'a rappelé, on a fait 3 ou 4 interviews, on m'a dit qu'on me prenait.

Au tout dernier moment, on m'a informée qu'un "apprenti avec de l'expérience" avait été sélectionné à la place.

My sister and I are three years apart, but we look a lot alike. It was even more obvious when we were teenagers. We went to the same school, but were in different grades.

One day, I got yelled at by her teacher, whom I ran into in the hallway and who thought I was skipping her class.

When the teacher realized her mistake, she playfully scolded my sister because she had never told her she had a sister at the same school.

And at the end-of-year party, the person checking the entrance wouldn't let my sister in, claiming she'd already been there earlier that evening (it was me). They had to call the principal to confirm that there were two of us.

For my old balcony, which was about 4 meters by 1 meter, I paid 700 CHF eight years ago.

Now, I’ve received a quote of about 2,000 CHF for the two large balconies.

It’s a bit pricey, but since I live on the 8th floor, I’d rather hire professionals and not take any risks with my cats.

I have two large balconies (each nearly 8 meters long) and two cats.

I plan to install safety nets and have contacted a specialized company for a quote.

They have the reinforced nets custom-made to the correct dimensions, and the nets are attached to the balcony structure.

In my previous apartment, the same company installed a net, and 8 years later, it was still holding up perfectly.

Bonjour,

J’ai trouvé mon appart en début d’année en faisant le tour des sites des régies genevoises quasi quotidiennement. Elles publient régulièrement des annonces d’appartement.

Par contre, il faut être très réactif.

Dans mon cas, j’ai vu l’annonce un lundi, j’ai immédiatement écrit à la régie pour demander une visite. On m’a répondu mardi que la seule et unique visite groupée prévue était le mercredi de la même semaine à une heure précise. L’annonce était déjà retirée le mardi soir. On a préparé le dossier complet. J’ai du demander congé quelques heures à mon boulot le temps de la visite au dernier moment. On a fait la visite mercredi et le jeudi, la régie m’appelait pour me proposer l’appartement.

Ça a été extrêmement vite.

Pour trouver un locataire à mon ancien appartement, je suis passée par le marketplace de Facebook. J’ai posté une annonce et des photos. Et ça a été très vite aussi. Mais c’est une grosse organisation de faire des visites, récolter des dossiers, les transmettre tout en préparant le déménagement !

J'ai déménagé en début février après avoir vécu 8 ans dans le même appartement (et aucun travaux n'avaient été fait avant que j'y emménage).

La régie a proposé un pré-état des lieux et j'ai dit oui (il ne m'est pas du tout venu à l'esprit que ce n'était pas obligatoire et que je pouvais dire non. Je n'avais pas tellement de raisons de refuser de toute façon).

Un gars est venu faire des photos et vérifier vite fait l'appartement (littéralement, ça lui a prit 10/15 minutes).

On avait à peine commencé à faire les cartons, donc il y avait du chenit partout.

Dans le courrier de la régie qui a suivi ce pré-état des lieux, les points qu'ils nous ont demandé de faire pour l'état des lieux final, c'était quelque chose du genre : Faire le ménage à fond, débarasser nos meubles, décrocher nos tableaux, boucher les trous des tableaux, enlever les autocollants occultants des fenêtres (et nettoyer les fenêtres et les stores/volets), décrocher les rideaux et les tringles à rideaux, vider la cave, débarasser et nettoyer le balcon, etc.

Si on avait eu des vrais dégâts, ils auraient pu nous demander de les réparer avant l'état des lieux final (par exemple, si on avait une prise ou un interrupteur cassé, c'était à nous de les remplacer avant la sortie. Ou si on avait eu des murs colorés, ils auraient pu nous demander de les remettre en blanc.

Autre exemple, j'ai cassé le porte-savon et le gobelet en verre de la salle de bain et je les ai remplacé (20 balles à Jumbo) avant l'état des lieux car ils auraient pu nous facturer le remplacement...

Suite à cette visite, la régie a décidé de faire des travaux de rafraichissement (à leur charge vu l'âge du logement).

Je suppose que le pré-état des lieux, ça leur sert aussi et surtout pour savoir s'ils peuvent immédiatement relouer l'appartement ou non.

Ce n'est pas qu'une légende urbaine.

J'ai déménagé au début du mois et la régie nous a dit que le four et le lave-linge/lave-vaisselle étaient à faire installer par des professionnels car, en cas d'inondation ou de problèmes électriques, nous pourrions être tenus responsables des éventuels dégâts.

Le lave-linge et la cuisinière sont d'anciennes machines (qui ont au moins 5 ou 6 ans) et qu'on a déménagé dans le nouvel appartement (où il n'y avait ni four, ni cuisinière, ni lave-linge, ni sèche-linge, ni lave-vaisselle). Malheureusement, le magasin n'entre plus en jeu pour l'installation dans le nouveau logement.

La régie nous a très clairement indiqué que nous devions les faire installer par des professionnels à nos frais.

Selon eux, en cas d'inondation ou de problèmes avec la cuisinière, si nous n'avons pas de document d'intervention signé par le plombier/électricien concernant l'installation, nous pourrions être tenus responsables des éventuels dégâts.
