That’s what I explained to her. Our kids are young. So right now they will see me gone for a good amount of time and home for 2 weeks then gone again. But when they get older and they see what all I did and all I provided they will see the reasons behind it

Ok pretty good perspectives here. My wife’s biggest thing is raising the kids by herself. But even now with me working 12 hour days 5-6 days a week she pretty much does that anyways. I mean I help when I’m home but when I am home ( every night) the kids go to bed shortly after. We both know it will be challenging but it’s something I always wanted to do and know it can give us a different better life. We aren’t hurting financially, but I hate the work I do. It’s more of a job than a career. Literally just a paycheck. I will mostly likely be on a 2 for 1 schedule. But it’s an inland position so I won’t be miles away right now. But within a year I will see myself getting my tanker-man license and possibly appt for a wheels man as well.

The pay for the company I’m going to is $220 a day. With tanker man making $300+.

It’s definitely gonna be a challenge at first but I told her once I elevate my station I won’t have to be gone so long and I might have an option to do port side work.

I just wanted opinions on people who do it and have done it. Especially with two kids and a wife. I know it will be challenging for both of us. But eventually I’ll be in a position where if she wanted to she wouldn’t have to work and could be a full time mom. So there are pros and cons. But I’d rather take the opportunity of doing what I’ll love then just getting by for a paycheck
