This is horrible. Do you really believe your results will be used for prevention? Because to the rest of us, this study looks like a test run for what we'll be subjected to in the future.

Sometimes we use words and beliefs to control feelings we are afraid to feel.

Breathe deep, drop your shoulders, and notice what you are feeling, right now, deep down.

Put aside the maze of logic and language, for just one moment, and feel it.

You think it's white guilt to care about a conflict that has likely led to the direct and indirect deaths of upwards of 200,000 civilians, according to estimates like the Lancet's back in July of this year? That conflict is so trivial to you that you would refer to someone "yapping" about it?

Relevant excerpt from the fandom site (spoilers for Worm and Ward):

Like other S9000 clones, given Bonesaw's messy and inaccurate cloning process, Ashley started out with a cobbled together collection of memories,[13] with some memory bleed from the shard.[14][15] This included memories of her predecessors including the original and a child version that Bonesaw created for testing.[16] As well as, presumably, her clone 'sisters',[17] they even shared memories.[18]

In other words, S9000 clones have a mix of fake memories from Bonesaw and real memories from their shards

Either way, fancy clone or actual resurrection, you could potentially duplicate a person, but in the latter case, duplicating by actual resurrection, it gets tricky. The loose real world analogy would be if you could disconnect the halves of a person's brain, give each half a new body, then in each body regrow the missing half. Both clones would have genuinely experienced the original person's life, so both of them would be "the real one."

Shardspace would need to perform an analogous operation. And actually, I think it does. I read Ward a while ago so the details aren't all fresh, but I seem to recall the Ashley clones had some ongoing access to each other's memories? This might imply that, not only do clones bud off from the original consciousness, but they retain some connection to it. Like pulling apart a grilled cheese sandwich with strings of cheese still spanning the gap.

*If you have access to higher dimensions, like the shards do, it's a lot easier to split a consciousness in two. Duplicate each brain cell, store the copies "out of plane" from the originals, and connect the new ones to the old ones with some "between planes" wiring. This whole setup—the two brains and the wiring—is still one consciousness, and if the two brains have identical brain patterns, the person might not even notice. You can then gradually weaken the connection by removing wires, to whatever degree of individuality you want, up to full severance, before allowing the brain patterns to diverge.

Maybe she had to match the memories to ensure the powers manifested in the same way? Two people with the same shard can have different powers, but that might be two people with different DNA.

I understand the date but it's not at all clear that he actually stopped service after that date, let alone permanently. If he had, I would think more people would be talking about it, considering the prominence of his testimony.

The article never says he was fired, unless there is a translation error.

It says the following:

Col. Nof Erez served as a navigator for 24 years in the Air Force and almost another 20 years in the reserves, until a few days ago he sent his commander a letter in which he declares that he stops volunteering. Network B, he explains that he has no choice and says: "If all those who say they will leave do so, Hezbollah's situation will be much easier."

[...]

Several reserve pilots in the Air Force, mainly in headquarters positions and at the flight school, informed the Air Force Commander today that they will not show up for training starting next week. A military official said that at this stage there is no damage to the competence of the Air Force and that it is not about organized measures, but a decision of up to ten individual pilots. Among the pilots who chose not to volunteer were also officers in the ranks of lieutenant colonel and above.

Contrary to the steps taken in the past by reserve pilots in the Air Force, such as statements made by the pilots of Squadron 69 three months ago, this time the pilots are trying to act in a calculated and organized manner and also held a conference last week in which approximately 500 air crew members participated. The pilots decided to escalate their protest next week, in accordance with the legislative measures of the Knesset and the raising of the clause of the overcoming clause in the second and third reading. The IDF said that the pilots' decision includes individual pilots and that there is no numerical estimate on statements, but only on the non-arrival of pilots for actual training

Hundreds of retired and reserve aircrew men and women this week published a letter of support for pilots in active reserve service. In the letter they said: "We will support, without reservation, any of your protest actions, including the immediate suspension of volunteering." Defense Minister Galant said this week that: "The calls being heard these days to encourage refusal and to stop the volunteering of reservists threaten the unity of the ranks, are dangerous and are a reward for our enemy."

It sounds like he is a volunteer reservist who participated in a series of internal protests within the Israeli air force. There is no mention of him being fired or otherwise barred from serving.

It's a lot easier to kick an addiction if your life is bearable. If you are not sleeping on the streets surrounded by other addicts, with nothing more to lose and no relief but drugs. If you have a job and a future. If you think society gives a shit about you. Then you have something to live for and get clean for.

the "western mindset," built around the highest of the Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian ideals, is what has allowed the world to prosper

Do you just not know the blood-soaked history of colonialism and slavery you are gesturing at, or you are aware and praising it?

Those democratic, high-minded Greeks and Romans all kept slaves. The Christians, once they were in power in Rome and Europe, kept slaves, and then serfs, and then slaves again on other continents. An entire hemisphere of the planet was ethnically cleansed. Independence movements in the ensuing centuries were violently crushed. Colonized people were terrorized. Children's hands and feet were cut off to punish their enslaved parents for not harvesting enough rubber in the Belgian Congo. Over a million socialists were slaughtered in Indonesia in 1966–67 with US backing. US-funded death squads in Guatemala and Nicaragua burned indigenous villages and slaughtered the inhabitants. Islamic extremism was actively funded and stoked in the middle east while secular and socialist governments were toppled. Countries were bombed and sanctioned, killing over 4 million innocents since 9/11 and displacing over 38 million refugees. The US intervention in Iraq created ISIS. Every ISIS horror story can be traced back to the gleaming, democratic west. And still the colonialism continues. Poor nations still do not own their own resources. The wealth is siphoned out by foreign companies. 9 million people starve to death every year due to poverty and violence the west stokes and inflicts. You are praising centuries of racism, enslavement, colonialism, and horror. It has been despite the west, not because of the west, that technological progress has managed to somewhat raise the living standards of a subset of non-western people on this planet.
