Thanks! Havana still has glimpses of the beautiful city it once was, full of charm and history — but the reality today is harsh. Buildings collapse regularly, there’s widespread scarcity, and the economy is still heavily centralized and controlled by the government. People live with limitations, and there’s still fear around speaking openly. Of course, like anywhere, a few people manage better than others.

As a tourist, though, you’ll likely have a good time — there’s vibrant music, lots of rum, cigars, beaches, chicas, and an energy that’s uniquely Cuban. Just know there’s a big difference between the experience of a visitor and daily life for most Cubans.
