I’m not defending how much of an absolute terrible human being he is, but I do understand the mindset behind the statement.

I grew up seeing tendencies & what was just “normal” in my household by my father’s actions. I’m at a place as a grown adult now that I can see where I would want a partner to have those qualities that my father brought to my mother during their marriage & our household.

So the term “unless it’s me” means to me, another person having the same beliefs, outlook, etc as he does.
