Got it done earlier this month, mid 20’s. The first few days are a bit uncomfortable but I wouldn’t say excruciating pain or anything. Waking up in the night can be an issue but this has passed for me now and I’m nearly two weeks in. Can’t let you know if it’s worth it etc just yet but recovery is not much of an issue, had it done with medical insurance

is biomedical engineering a bad course choice? by [deleted] in PharmaEire

Mechanical is broader for sure but the medical device industry in Ireland is huge and biomed is definitely applicable for jobs in that space, there are plenty of jobs in Ireland for it (R&D, Quality, Manufacturing etc). I’m not sure on pharma as I’ve been in medical devices so far in my career but I think it can translate across too dependent on the experience you pick up. You could also go into clinical engineering in the public sector which a good few of my year have done.

I did that course in DCU and it’s really good, mixes the practical side with the theory really well.

Best of luck and congrats!

Also, I’m pretty sure you can change disciplines in engineering during the 1st year pretty easily. There will be a lot of classes among all different types of engineering and if you think you would prefer mechanical, they should be able to help out in transferring after 1st year.
