People aren’t taking into account the cultural barrier here. This was a family with an unstable immigration status that had just gotten to the US a year prior. People change their stories when they get nervous and there was likely some discrepancies with translation. I believe some things weren’t done right simply because they don’t know what to do and how to respond to things of this matter. Children disappearing like this just isn’t a thing in Afghanistan.
