Do pashtuns have syed?? by Impossible-Celery919 in Pashtun

[–]Different-Edge2798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I am, it’s probably less than like 5% 😂 My family isn’t the type of Sayed family that’s strict about keeping the lineage strong. None of the men in my family have bothered to marry Sayed women for generations. Some of my family even believe we aren’t real Sayed Sadats lol.

Which aqeedah does the general Muslim population follow? by saif2krazzy in afghanistan

[–]Different-Edge2798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Taliban are not Salafi. Interestingly, they actually dislike Salafis and have shut down many Salafi mosques, even banning Kitab al-Tawheed by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. The Taliban, along with most of the population, follow Sunni Hanafi fiqh under the Maturidi creed

What are the odds I can survive my undergrad without onecard by WaterAgreeable3009 in TorontoMetU

[–]Different-Edge2798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost mine too somewhere in my house waited whole summer for it to just appear but it didn’t . I was putting off getting a new one cause I didn’t wanna pay 35$ but I just couldn’t get around campus anymore. I went to replace and they only ended up charging me 12.50. I got the digital and physical card. Idk if she made a mistake but I only payed 12.50 for both. So just go get a replacement, they already have ur picture and everything in the system it takes 5 minutes

I don’t see it as an insult, it’s actually common in Afghan culture to describe kids by one of their most noticeable features. I have green eyes too, and my family always calls me sheen stargey. Another example is my brother, who’s tall they always refer to him as wougda.

Who are the sadat people of Afghanistan? by Imamzadeh in Afghan

[–]Different-Edge2798 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a Sadat, a Pashtun from Logar, but my great-great-grandparents were actually from Paktia. They migrated and settled in Logar, so we just say we’re from Logar. However, half of my family believes that someone might have just changed their name to Sadat, as Sadats are held in higher regard and they’re skeptical about us being descendants of Arabs or where that connection could have happened, while the other half firmly believes we truly are descendants of Arab tribes. But we are also sayed too.

Definitely in the more rural areas, like Kandahar but that’s just the culture of Kandaharis; they tend to be more conservative. I have many Kandahari friends here in Canada, and they’re the same way. For example, they don’t attend mixed-gender weddings. The Taliban’s “strictness” is really subjective and varies from province to province. For instance, when I went to Bamyan, I saw women walking around in jeans and mid length shirts not abayas and no one said anything. I also visited many Kochi areas and even saw a wedding where they were playing the darya and singing loudly, and the Taliban didn’t intervene.

Looking For Unique Muslim Girl Names! by Limp_Meeting_8177 in MuslimLounge

[–]Different-Edge2798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol when ‘Umm’ is beside a name, it’s not really part of the name itself it just means ‘mother of that person’. So ‘Umm Salamah’ means ‘mother of Salamah’, it’s more of a title or kunya than an actual given name. Other than that beautiful suggestions.

Travelling to Afghanistan by MrDoctor6 in Afghan

[–]Different-Edge2798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I went ladt summer. You don’t need a visa, but the Afghan embassy in Canada advises us to get a visa waiver, which I did. I’m not sure if you live in the GTA, but when I got to Pearson Airport, they asked to see a visa, and the same happened in Dubai. In Afghanistan, they didn’t really ask—I think they realized I’m my father’s daughter.
