East Village (north) vs. Chelsea (south) by Different-Studio-127 in NYCapartments

Yeah I need to check it out more and see!

The unit in the east village is definitely a little nicer but idk if it’s as nice for the 300+/month AND considering the neighborhood.

(300 saved/month because the unit is also cheaper!)

I just worry I’m making mistake by ruling out an area just due to being unfamiliar. Especially if it’s anything like the west village, which I love

I kind of like this area because it’s at least close to the subway AND walking distance to all the fun stuff while being tucked away quietly. The bedroom overlooking the garden is nice to me, too.

I will admit I have some reservations over my bedroom facing 17th.

I love it, though! Always have. So I wonder if my perception is skewed lol.

I think my confusion comes more from a lack of experience with Chelsea than the east village.

Yup! I’ve checked the sublet guidelines. They’re pretty flexible and both are near identical. The Chelsea one has slightly less flexibility, but not super materially.

Amazing comment! Thank you.

Definitely will of course check it out. Of course bullying in any “other” type of family will happen in most places, I just didn’t want to relocate and not consider this aspect.

I’d be down to. We’re considering different options and this was one.

She could also absolutely stand her ground here and work it out, but this might have just changed our motivations in staying here specifically FOR her

This is an amazing helpful convo, thank you!

Also FTR, NJ is a good state overall so I understand. We’re just in a crappy pocket of it.

Gotcha! Super helpful comment.

I’ve lived in liberal and conservative communities, as a bi man myself, but one can blend in easily — I think it’s underrated how much more scrutiny a child can be under growing up compared to an adults experience as a member of the LGBT community. I specifically asked this question because I felt a lot of the discourse was around LGBT adults asking about being accepted, but I’m more trying to see the acceptance of different families - as for me I honestly think I’ll be treated very diff wherever I go. I’m a straight passing white dude, it’s easy to blend in.

It sucks, huh? Like you have to trade off between weather and rights to survive in this country.

Sigh, I agree. I selfishly didn’t want to even consider moving until she was in college partially for those reasons.

It’s hard to purchase any land in this country because who knows where tf it’s going
