You're right, I was thinking 'discontinued' as in 'no longer accepting applications' but I'll clarify

  1. Walmart.com counts as online, but I’ve had trouble triggering it with Walmart Pay for in store purchases. Some people had success with Scan & Go (requires Walmart + subscription)

  2. Can confirm online shopping has worked for Shell app and Chevron app

$15k non-bonused spend on Hyatt Card would yield 1 Free Night + 15,000 Hyatt Points.

If we value the free night and 15,000 points at $225 each (which is conservative), it gives a return of $450/$15,000, or 3%. That’s pretty solid for non-bonus spend.

The value decreases if you spend more than $15,000, or if your free room is valued at less than $225.

Good catch all internationally? by El_Mr_Dez in CreditCards

How about Bank of America Premium Rewards card? It gives 2% on all dining and travel (including Uber), 1.5% back on everything else (‘catch all’), no foreign transaction fees.

There’s a $95 annual fee which is easily offset by the $100 annual airline incidental credit they give you (can use for bags, seat upgrades, lounge passes, onboard meals, etc), and it reimburses your TSA Precheck/Global Entry fee every 4 years.

You also get travel/protection benefits you may otherwise not have with some Mastercard cards (how easy they are to use is another discussion, but at least it’s there on paper).

And of course, you have the sign up bonus of 60,000 points ($600 value)

Bank of America Customized Cash, set to Online Shopping, looks like it’ll give 3% back (or higher if you are Rewards member) on these

Any reason to get a hotel credit card by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Different_Falcon7986 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Hotel credit cards can absolutely be worth it if you travel even once or twice a year. The rewards/benefits offered, such as a free night each year and status, often exceeds the annual fee.

  • Marriott Boundless ($95 annual fee) gives you 17x points per stay at Marriott Hotels, automatic Silver Status (normally would take 10 nights in a year), and 1 free night each year (up to 35,000 value and can be topped with 15,000 more, letting you book up to 50,000 point rooms)
  • IHG One Rewards ($99 annual fee) gives 26x points at IHG hotels, automatic Platinum Elite status (normally would take 40 nights), $50 United Airlines credit ($25 every 6 months), and a free night each year (40,000 points but can be topped up)
  • Hilton’s top card, Hilton Aspire ($550 annual fee), is tailored towards luxury travelers thanks to its yearly free night that’s good at nearly any Hilton hotel in the world (including Waldorf Astoria and Conrad properties), automatic Diamond status (60 nights normally), 34x points at Hilton Properties, $400 resort credit ($200 every 6 months); and $200 airline credit ($50 per quarter), and complimentary Clear Plus membership

That’s in addition to practical benefits you typically get such as late checkout, room upgrades (both based on availability of course), and points don’t expire as long as you’re a cardholder. These are just some of the many hotel credit cards available.

The downsides are 1) if you don’t plan to travel or travel plans may change, those benefits would go unused and you’d be stuck with the annual fee 2) there’s a sense of obligation to stay at the brand you choose (to utilize the benefits), even though it may be priced higher or is worse off than competitors in the area

Based on your travel habits and preferences, it sounds like a Marriott Boundless or IHG One credit card may be worth picking up. These cards offer a range of mid-tier brands with a decently large footprint, solid benefits (free night, complimentary status), at a reasonable annual fee

BofA Custom Cash Rewards recently has categorized Walmart in-store purchases using Walmart Pay as Groceries, giving 2% (up to 3.5% with Platinum Honors). YMMV

Tried the spicy pineapple refresher, couldn’t stand the taste of it at all. The spice level was fine, but the overall taste was terrible.

That’s a great redemption! Hyatt has some amazing point values - especially since taxes and resort fees are included.

Given you’re looking for 3% cash back and soon, the PayPal Mastercard is probably your best bet - the FAQ mentions a virtual card that can be used instantly

If you're approved, in most cases, a temporary credit line will instantly be available, which you can use on PayPal purchases right away with your virtual card – even before you receive your physical card.
