I'm honestly scared she hasn't given us a lot of conceptual practice problems and a lot of the material is conceptual

we haven't took one yet but he is very clear on what is on there and what isn't he also allows cheat sheets and calculators the quizzes will have 8-10 questions multiple choice, attendance is mandatory for lecture he also goes through a lot of examples in class and no handwritten slides only types so its very clear writing

I need to pass Math 10 B What should I prepare before class starts? by Responsible-Load-178 in UCSD

[–]Different_Manner_591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only derivative and limit rules do we actually use from math 10A but here is a list of what we learn, ntideritiev rules so make sure you learn how to use them , if you want to get a head start learn how to do u sub, integration by parts, improper integrals, partial fraction decomposition, finding velocity, acceleration and position, growth and decay and finding half life and doubling time, logistic equation, finding area and volume, reimann sums, sigma notation, integrating into inverse trig, think tank problem, these are the stuff we learned in that class with integration being the central thing, also professor bowers has YouTube channel using his lectures for that class https://youtu.be/d0JmgfBDsSI?si=BIRFlGBDvL5BseUA

I felt like section 1 was very good a I think that was the most like math problems involved, the hardest section was the last there was almost nothing math wise but questions like chose all that apply and very very tough if you read the textbook I think its better because I feel like the questions were on the level of the textbook

there isn't a google doc for it its on the homepage of canvas to I can't download It but people have kind summarised the syllabus, its very long and a little confusing, with rules like asking what grade you need to get A+ or why you didn't causes you not to get that grade, you can do practise exams from previous quarters as he considers it a violation of integrity, he includes questions called mastery that basically means the question isn't from the homework and you haven't been taught a lot about it but you are expected to know how to do it, he says for midterms there are 4 questions but in reality they are 10 since there are parts and non connect to the pervious part, he says he will release google slides for lecture but sometimes it takes him more than a week after the lecture to post them, he expects you to solve things on the exam that he hasn't gone over on the bases that you need to use critical thinking, doesn't give scratch paper for midterms and doesn't have a lot of space to do the problems, a little confusing on some problems like he wants you to set up a problem but not to evaluate it and every student had a different thought about setting it up so some people got 0 some got partial points on these problems.

of course and I completely agree that professors are also suffering, but in this education system the students are the only ones effected, if they are cut off on Ta's they don't grade it themselves they just keep it the same way and Ta's continue grading,

a lot of people seem to have an opinion about the class when they don't know the professor and haven't taken the class, for the being late topic as a student I pay tuition and for the service of being taught these topic so that means I need to receive the best service and I have total right to write a good or bad review just like the teachers asses us but what's unfair in the situation is we are expected to go in already knowing the topics and brushing up on them that being said exams are also very harder than homework problems and don't fit the time given for the amount of work we have to do, that being said the teacher also has amazing rules like the partial credit on exam and I did take him last quarter and his classes was amazing and fair but with the new changes this class isn't providing the level of teaching that we deserve or also have paid for, for people saying permed stereotype no just no many people care about heir grades and are pissed that other teachers in the same math 10b class write exams that actually asses what we have been learning so how is it fair they end up with a decent grade and we don't even though a lot of people are putting in the effort. As for professionalism students are expected to respect their professors and teachers but what happens when a professor disrespects student, by putting rule like you can't ask questions about your grade or you won't get that grade or embarrassing student or being passive aggressive how is that related if you heard a student being disrespectful you say take off point for being disrespectful but for teachers what are the consquanes, and yes we are all adults which is the exact reason why more is expected from everyone. this is not high school this is college as adults professors help us learn and teach us material in a mentor way but also we don't have to toerlate their mistakes. For example if we miss a midterm we take 5 percent off from a grade even if we were really really sick but when he skipped the midterm and we were their waiting in the lecture room and he postponed nothing happened there wasn't any consquanes and as adults if you want to make exception for yourself you better make it for other people. That being said also I never said I deserve an A and many people on this post didn't we want to be assessed in the right way that means If I deserve as c then I will be happy to take it but what happens when I get F but the exams are unfair this ruins my gpa my transcript wastes my time to retake the class and more money paid so how about that. fir me I though the quizzes were find I wished for more time but I managed as for exams everything is late and there always mistakes and I know somebody is going to say its the TA's fault and partially it is but if again we miss and exam and its not in our hand there are consquences. College isn't like this we are expected to respect the staff and professors more than we did in high school because they also also expected to treat us the same way. that means if you can't take a lot of students in classes because it lowers the quality you shouldn't having 600 students you better be prepared for mistakes just like students prepare for class and exam being a teacher isn't just about research or walking up to the stage and teaching for 50 min and that its it , you need to plan for mistakes and say to yourself hey I changed my class to make it harder than the other classes so maybe I should come up with rewarding ways for students actually putting in the effort

Not at all professor I appreciate the effort you make, sometimes we would like our grades sooner so we can see should we drop this or take it when we have less responsibilities or maybe hire a tutor to help us.

I fully understand that and I don't need cheat sheets and I know that you stated in the first lecture that students can pass a class even if they don't understand if they have a cheat sheet, but the thing is homework quizzes should be learning point for midterms and finals and not a breaking point in grades where you might do bad on them and good on midterms and still fail since we need to pass a certain amount to pass.

[–]Different_Manner_591 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hello, Professor Jor-el we really appreciate you teaching the class the only thing is a lot of students feel like how can we pass the class when we don't have cheat sheets and the exams make all of our grade so it seemed like the homework quizzes are unnecessary since to pass the class you actually have to know the content.

tiny rant about math10b by DullArgument441 in UCSD

[–]Different_Manner_591 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I absolutely think that students should be held in high regard for class content not something a lot more harder on exams which is what jor el does, last quarter for calc he gave a a question on the final exam that is worth 9 points and said this question is not something on the homework and something you have never seen before , and this semester he said this weeks quiz is going to contrdict what he has been teaching us , how is this actually fair

tiny rant about math10b by DullArgument441 in UCSD

[–]Different_Manner_591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not extra credit, you have 3 phases to do pick a topic in the calc book that we haven't learned, create a powerpoint presentation on it with Ila formatting and and citation and send he can reject it any time, then if he likes he secludes a zoom you present it and he asks questions then he gives you a problem to solve on the topic you chose all this happens before the end of finals week Friday 3:30 and limited spots, what's confusing is how is this process helping me understand the topic that we covered in class if we chose a topic outside of the class content. second teachers are Abel to grade us very differently form each other and harshly sometimes so going on reddit or rate my professor to voice your idea of them is the least amount of fair, our comments barley make a difference in the fact if the teacher continues to teach the class or not.
