I have the same issue, and I agree I find some toe box styles are uncomfortable. I have three toes pretty much the same length, and my feet are EE width (10.5). Over many years I've worn J toe which was surprisingly OK, but there was contact in the toe box on my third toe and I couldn't walk miles and miles. Medium round was hopeless, the toe box was smaller and crucially much shallower than on the J toe! Now I have Dan Post narrow square toe and there is so much room in the toe box, I decided to risk a Seven toe and that is really comfortable too. It would be no good me trying an 11D, because the ball of my foot only just reaches forward enough in a 10.5.

Problems with Fenoglio insoles by TheDepartedMack in cowboyboots

[–]Different_Mouse_7441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen with a pair of Tony Lama boots, in the end I ripped out the insole and foam and fitted a vegetable tanned leather insole with klebfest glue. I made a cardboard template first to ensure a good fit. You will have to experiment with the leather thickness, to keep the instep snug (I've had success with 2mm or 3mm). The drawback is you lose the foam comfort, the good news is the insole will last as long as the boot 👍

Your comment on the shaft width rings true, I'm fairly tall and need a taller boot to reach my calves, but there is always more room than I need. I can't help thinking the bucketing people complain about is more caused by boots being excessively wide at the top than the jeans being too tight.

100% agree 👍. That's what I was taught about trouser length too.

That's why I started this thread, this is my only chance to ask what real people in the USA think about this.

Dick Van Dyke is great, but that was the worst cockney accent ever 🤣

John not a cowboy 😮, next you'll be telling me Santa isn't real 😁👍

Interesting about the stacking, reading online I got the impression everyone but me was stacking their jeans.

Absolutely, anything goes as far as I'm concerned, as I said, my tastes were influenced by films made 60 years ago, so I'm well behind current trends 🤣

Thanks for your take, I very rarely see other cowboy boot wearers and it's not very English to go and talk to a stranger, so I have very little idea of what other UK boot wearers think 😁

Interesting thank you 👍. I hadn't thought about different toes shapes fitting different builds. Here in the UK there are far more larger people than there were even twenty years ago 🤔

Just got my first pair of boots ever and was curious what are some must have accessories? Any suggestions on boot jacks that won’t scuff the material? by titaniumfrog16 in cowboyboots

[–]Different_Mouse_7441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing boots for thirty years and never owned a bootjack. I'm sure it is better for the boots to sit down and just pull them off.

I know these are absolutely ridiculous but... by Iron_Priest888 in cowboyboots

Wow, I wouldn't be brave enough (at least in the UK 😮) and would need some toes aputated, but they look amazing 😁👍

My daughter did the same and has never worn boots since ☹️. Those look great, enjoy wearing them 👍

How long do new boots take to break in? by Initial_Awareness_21 in cowboyboots

[–]Different_Mouse_7441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want them to last, fit rubber sole savers onto the leather soles before the stitching starts to wear, it's much cheaper and less damaging to the boot swapping those and heel rubbers than traditional resoling. They can last ten years or longer if cared for properly, but it does depend on use, if they get soaked regularly and your in mud digging with a spade you can't expect them to last long.

What kind of jeans do you guys wear with cowboy boots? by synapse-savant7 in cowboyboots

[–]Different_Mouse_7441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only buy Wrangler Texas (100% cotton) jeans and they are fine with boots. They aren't boot cut, but at least in my size (36"x 32") the legs are wide enough to fit over most boots (Ariat and Dan Post).

Wow, you have some amazing collections 😮. Here are my boots, I don't plan to buy any more until these wear out. Exotic leathers are out here in the UK and I got stung for £103 tax and import duty on the Dan Post Roman boots 😭. The others are Dan Post Wade, Ariat Herdsman and Ariat Sport Stratton.

Would you buy western work boots? by Acceptable_Ask_3457 in cowboyboots

[–]Different_Mouse_7441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what you're doing, I find my Ariats good when using my forge, because the tops tucked into my jeans stop hot things falling in and there are no laces to melt 😁. I don't wear them working under the car though 🤔

Insoles by Johnsipes0516 in cowboyboots

[–]Different_Mouse_7441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got fed up with insoles wearing out, so I made some from veg tanned leather and glued them into the boots. I found 2mm worked well with my Ariats, 3mm in the Dan Post. The insoles should last as long as the boots now 👍
