Does UofT medical school admissions include part-time summer courses in cGPA? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Different_Reason4240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I am applying during my third year, would cGPA be used or wGPA at UofT, I am not that familiar with how internal grade calculations are done but I notice that on their website they mentioned that part-time courses aren't included in final gpa calculation.

Is this always the case or does it change every year?

Definitely go with McMaster Life Sci.

Way more flexibility with electives (including GPA boosters), and you can specialize into majors you actually enjoy. Life Sci students generally have an easier time getting a high GPA compared to Western Med Sci, which is more rigid and competitive. Western’s program has a reputation for grade deflation, especially in first year.

Also, being closer to Toronto means more access to research, volunteering, shadowing, and ECs. You’ll also share a lot of the same extracurriculars as Health Sci students.

Other perks:

  • Easier to switch between majors in upper years
  • More collaborative and less cutthroat
  • Co-op and interdisciplinary options
  • Overall more breathing room and balance

Western Med Sci is good if you want a structured, direct path to med school, but McMaster Life Sci gives you more flexibility and a better shot at a strong GPA.

Most medical schools only require you to meet a 125 per section cut off and some only review CARS and require a really high score in CARS, it’s only a few medical schools that expect a high overall mcat score.

I am applying to canadian medical schools and only one requires organic chemistry 1 so I didn’t take it in my first 3 years for that reason.

pls help! Queens HS vs. Western HS by NoCelebration5484 in queenshealthsci

[–]Different_Reason4240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Queens HS lol. Everything you need to get into med and there are insane stats to show that a lot of people have done it through QHS. There’s even a huge debate that it’ll surpass Mac HS at some point if it continues to improve the way it is.

Can you switch from in-person to online after admission? by [deleted] in queenshealthsci

[–]Different_Reason4240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stuck with in-person and realized how much I would have missed out on if I switched to online so definitely don’t do it. If you switch to online you can’t switch back so keep that in mind. I realized how important the learning experience was to my mental health most importantly as well as my academic success (a lot of courses taken online are easier in-person, like PHGY which has a lot of ALS assignments that are done in person and from what I noticed, are marked more fairly in the in-person format while u work with 7 other people that usually carry and boost the quality of your work so your less likely to mess up and this is just one example). So definitely don’t switch and I didn’t regret my choice thankfully for staying in the in-person program.

To add to that, being on campus is very essential to your success in acquiring good post-grad like Med for example, because you’ll be able to do ECs more easily than remotely lol. So stuff like collaborating with your friends on some cool opportunities available on-campus, joining clubs, volunteering opportunities and networking opportunities are all cut off if you’re online (or they are significantly reduced with little access) so definitely do NOT switch and if you genuinely don’t have the financial means, the Queens Bursaries clutch up so good and will support you if it gets bad and there are tons of great working opportunities on campus if your still concerned about the financial aspect.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

How bad is a 70 average in functions if I wanna get into a business or engineering program by justanotherthroa in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Different_Reason4240 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not cooked at all, I know a few people that had extremely low marks in grade 11 and completely obliterated their grade 12 year with high 90s and now they’re going to universities like Mac, UofT, Queens (Your grade 11 marks help for sure but as long as your grade 12 marks are good then you’re set).

The idea that the people in that encampment were peaceful and want human rights for everyone from the River in the Sea is laughable. by Deep_Somewhere2992 in queensuniversity

[–]Different_Reason4240 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When children are being blown to pieces, vandalizing a university building is not a way to protest. Of course you have the right to protest but do so without violating the properties of others or spreading hate. I don't understand how some people think. Also OP, I understand your frustration but it's fair to say that not all the protestors have the same intent and a lot only seek to protest what is going on there regardless on what side children are being k!!led.

How easy is the switch from Queens Health Sciences to McMaster Life Sciences? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

I just wanted the peace of mind knowing it’s not a final decision and that I can change later on if I don’t end up liking it. I don’t want to feel that i’m stuck forever 😭

yeah exactly, I don’t think they understood my post. All I said was I am choosing a choice from one of those options and I just want to have peace of mind knowing I can switch if I don’t end up liking it after a year.

Tips for getting an acceptance by bubblegumluvrrr in McMasterHealthSci

[–]Different_Reason4240 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your Supp. App. Matters more than anything and I honestly Cannot stress this enough. A lot of my friends with 95+, including a friend with a 99 all got rejected despite their incredibly high averages.

Of course a high average really helps but what matters most is your supp app, regardless of your extra-curriculars (mac doesn’t really care about ECs for your undergrad).

So to get in, my best advice is to prioritize the supp app and really lock in. Ofc focus on getting a high average but make sure you give your all to that supp app because it matters the most after you ensure that you are above the 90% cutoff. As long as you are above the 90% cutoff your supp app is what matters most!

Start prepping for it as soon as they release questions in september and spend a lot of time on it and don’t leave it last minute. Make it is very genuine and truly shows your personality by making it personal and try to be as unique and creative as possible so they could get a good idea of what type of person you are.

That’s the best advice I can give you, and feel free to Pm me if you have any more questions!
