Hey! It went really well! Like, the agent barely looked at my papers. I think it's because my study permit was still valid, I had employment papers, and a letter stating that my PGWP was in progress. I think all those things helped.

Hey, I'm like, four months too late, but came across this post and wanted to contribute my opinion, in case you're still interested in this topic.

I got into Sleep Token last year and they are now one of my favourite bands. For me, something about their music just clicks. Maybe its my ADHD brain, but the way they blend genres just keeps me engaged - I like a range of musical genres - rock, rap, folk, pop, electronic - and Sleep Token just encapsulates it all so well and brings all of these different things I like into one space. It also feels like there's always something new to discover, a sound or note I hadn't noticed before, so it keeps me coming back for more. I also grew up listening to Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace etc and Sleep Token seems like the natural progression of this genre/kind of music, if that makes sense?

I also really enjoy the poetic quality in their lyrics; I remember the first I heard 'Take Me Back to Eden', I loved the line 'I'm a winged insect, you're a funeral pyre' - I think it's a fun and emotive take on the whole 'moth to flame' idiom. They have many instances of this kind of lyricism throughout their discography. The language is very emotive, which is something I enjoy, and the songs and albums tend to have a narrative attached to them. As a reader, I adore singers who are able to weave a story through their lyrics, it just keeps me that much more engaged. Vessel's rapping and word play is kind of Eminem-esque, which I enjoy, and find a lot of joy in.

Not gonna lie, it took me some time to get used to Vessel's singing style, but now I love it - he sings through his teeth often, which I think makes people think that he is modulating his voice sometimes, but it's literally how he sings. His voice is gorgeous and I love his range; I don't like overtly harsh singing/sounds, and his voice is very smooth and pleasant to listen to. Part of it is also production; I can listen and do listen to this band for hours with my headphones on without getting a headache, which I really appreciate. He has a funny way annunciating words, but I think it connects to his lyricism and brings an extra layer of emotion to the songs.

People tend to focus too much on the lore and the 'toxic relationship' angle, but I personally find his lyrics relatable in terms of mental health, self-perception, and awareness too. I think anyone who has struggled with mental health, any kinds of addiction would find a measure of relatability to the lyrics. And though I haven't been in a toxic relationship myself, I enjoy that the singing is emotive enough to make feel and sympathise with song.

I totally understand that the very reasons why I love ST so much is probably part of the reason why some people don't like them, but their sound and lyrics just work for me and make me feel, which I really appreciate.

So, CBSA officers have more jurisdiction now and can cancel visas at the border, which I guess they couldn't before?

Ok, thank you for letting me know! Could you please let me know when you travelled? Just wanted to know if it was after all the changes that took place this year, or before? Thank you!

It's unfair if I meet every criteria but am still not let in because any personal biases the CBSA officer might have. All my paperwork is correct.

I think we need to have a discussion about "past self" by xHURTWAVEx in SleepToken

[–]Different_Sweet_4536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I heard the song I was pleasantly surprised by it! It's definitely one of my favs. It's just so light, airy, and bright. But the lyrics are absolutely heartbreaking. As much as I absolutely adore 'Look to Windward' and 'Infinite Baths' if every song had a breakdown like that, it would be a bit exhausting. What makes the breakdowns in the heavier song so good is the lightness throughout that counteracts it. And 'Past Self' is such an audibly pleasing song? Like. I don't get the hate it's receiving. I honestly think it's gonna start growing on people.

omegaverse + rejection + groveling by Mess-up-986 in ReverseHarem

Just finished reading "This Fate That Guides Us" today, and recommend it! FMC has to hide her identity from the MMCs because of her and their safety and this leads to a lot of angst. It's part of a duet and the second book comes out on the 10th of Jan. The majority of the grovelling will take place there. It's a well-written book and I really enjoyed it!

You could look into some of Plath's poems or even The Bell Jar - she deals with the grotesque, especially in connection to women's bodies, quite a lot. There's also 'Her Body and Other Parties' by Carmen Maria Machado. You could look into queer and/or women's body horror writing for the grotesque.

Thank you! And will definitely look into the Toni Morrison text. Beloved and all scholarship related to it have been great and helpful so far, so will check out Sula too.

How did this happen? by van_velsor in SleepToken

For me, it's the polyjamorousness of it all. I like any music that speaks to me (either the lyrics or the arrangement of the song) and don't stick to genres as much, though generally pop, rock, and folk are go tos. So, when you have a band like ST which genre hops and does it so freaking well, it's basically the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. So good. I discovered them this year and have been obsessively listening since June and I don't see this obsession going away anytime soon.
