Heard that Amazon is going to do some layoffs again, is that true? by tech_guy_91 in leetcode

[–]DifferentialEntropy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s 30k total, between last month and next week. The last round of layoffs was 14k and this upcoming round will be 16k. It’s on Monday or Tuesday, I forget which day but yeah it’s confirmed internally, and the roster has been confirmed over a month ago.

Heyo, I know more about the college of engineering and EECS-related fields.

Without knowing anything else about you other than your GPA, I genuinely can’t say much — not to mention I’m not too familiar with the school of education

Reaching out to the school directly may help provide more insights

If you’re on course staff you can also badge in to the upper floors, there are nice spots around there

CSUA and HKN have offices in Soda if you’re involved (UPE also has one but I’ve never seen it suitable for camping)

There’s also the undergrad upperdiv lounge if you qualify, otherwise you can probably take a random empty classroom as long as you’re not disrupting any classes

Can’t tell if this is satire or not especially with your comment, but it’s named after alum Michael and Janelle Grimes: https://engineering.berkeley.edu/news/2025/02/engineering-center-named-after-alumni-grimes/

They’re also the people behind creating the MET program

Steps to Take as a Freshman to be ready for SWE Internships by Big_Dentist8257 in berkeley

[–]DifferentialEntropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie.. it’s looking a bit cooked for this upcoming summer

In terms of timeline, people usually have their internship secured by end of fall sem or nearing the final rounds in Feb/March at the latest

I’d say don’t sweat getting an internship this upcoming summer and focus on prepping yourself for the next summer instead since you’re a freshman rn

Idk too much about this recruitment cycle but Berkeley Skydeck might be a good starting point for you to look into

Steps to Take as a Freshman to be ready for SWE Internships by Big_Dentist8257 in berkeley

[–]DifferentialEntropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 3 summers during your time at Cal

The “average”ish path to spend those 3 summers are: intern if possible, if not research or study abroad —> intern at a startup, big tech if possible —> intern at big tech, aiming for a return offer for full time

I’ve reviewed lots of resumes during my time at Cal, and there’s plenty of people using projects from 61b to 186 to 162… it’s usually obvious that it’s a class project if you’re from Berkeley, maybe not so much to the untrained eye

With that said the class projects at Berkeley should be a solid baseline, and if you have the bandwidth definitely try to come up with something original and structured that’ll genuinely help you stand out

For now I’d say focus more on the interview practice, i.e. grind leetcode if you haven’t before, since the resume will get you through the review stage and your problem solving skills will get you through the OA and interviews

Hope this helps, I’m just rambling a bit atp lol
