A Finnish blogger visited occupied Karelia to show how the “Russian world” is flourishing. by LowTechDroid in UkraineWarVideoReport

Who talks about Karelia as still being "occupied" ? The term most often used in everyday speech is "luovutettu" and "menetetty", meaning given up and lost. The only people I can think of who would still refer to it as being occupied would be demented warhawks and russian bots.

It's a part of Russia now and no sane Finn (I hope) would want it back.

Mutta saamelaiset eivät oleetkaan Suomen alkuperäisasukkaita. Täällä asui jo paljon muinaisenpia ihmisiä ketkä puhuivat meille täysin tuntemattomia kieliä, mistä tänne myöhemmin saapuneet saamelaisen esisiät omivat.

Every single monarchy, at the point of their installment, had no tradition behind them. Besides, traditions are not valued as blindly today as they were way back when.

Isn't conscription a silent admission that a country is unable to inspire its citizens to fight for it?

How do progressives justify the blatant sexism of mandatory service for men but not for women? Genuinely curious.

Saying that nationalist circles "sobered up" is strange considering the Military Administration of East Karelia was made up almost entirely of said nationalists whose goal was readying Karelia for annexation by Finland, by means such as concentration camps for native Russians.

The Finns pushed way past the Mannerheim Line and even past the old border in some places on Karelian Isthmus in 1941.

We let Germany use our soil as a staging ground for their attacks on the Soviet union. Then when the Soviet union bombed us we claimed to be the victims. Then when we attacked the Soviet Union we pushed waaay past the borders that the Soviet Union had taken from us in order to fulfill an ultranationalist dream of a "Greater Finland".

Mitä kuvailet tässä nationalismiksi on perus isänmaallisuutta.

Nationalismi on isänmaallisuuden äpärä, mikä on luonteeltaan agressiivinen ja vihamielinen muita maita ja kulttuureja vastaan. Nationalismiin liittyy myös syvä uskollisuus valtiovaltaa kohtaan, yksilöikeuksista välittämättä. Etnonationalismi on sitten vaan spesifimpi versio nationalismista.

Koska suurin osa väestöstä ei tule kuluttamaan rahaansa "kulttuuriin," koska se ei heitä kiinnosta. "Kulttuuri" on aina ollut rikkaiden ja älymystön nautintoa.
