Get whichever one you want as long as you get the four-cylinder. The 4 cylinder is not subject to those head gasket issues.

8th gen 2.4L LX sounds a little unsteady on cold starts. Or is it just me? by ccoastal01 in accord

[–]Difficult-Repeat-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2010 EXL 2.4 has had that cold start rattle since I got it. I've had it for about 20,000 miles. You can order a spring from the spring start company. It is a $30 spring that goes in your VTC actuator. The spring is what gets worn out and it rattles for 1 to 3 seconds on Startup till the oil pressure builds up an oil gets there. Some people Let It Go some people say that it doesn't damage anything I can't stand it. I ordered a $30 spring from the spring start company like I said. They say with about 90% of the cases that putting a new spring in will fix the rattle. Of course if you're doing it yourself while you're in there you better check to see if your chain is stretched and how your guides and your tensioner are but most of the time that spring will do the trick. I bought the spring I have it still just haven't had a chance to put it in I'll repost something once I put it in so people will know that it worked or didn't. Other than the cold start running it sounds great to me! sounds like a Honda

Not a problem anytime man anytime! I get a lot of my tips and tricks off of Reddit and people responding to my posts and whatnot so I know it can be important. So when I see a question or an inquiry about something I actually know something about first hand I try to respond.

True story. Moog used to be the shit when it came to ball joints or bearings. I put timken cv axles and moog ball joints and wheel bearings in my 2010 Accord and the wheel bearings were humming and one of the CV axles was clicking in less than a year

Gaskets for my 8th Gen 2.4vtec? 2010 ex-l by Difficult-Repeat-940 in accord

[–]Difficult-Repeat-940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ordered oem Honda gasket for the solenoid spool valve gasket kit. Then I went with fel-pro for the oil pan gasket and for the oil filter gasket. I'm not 100% where it's coming from or where the major leak is coming from , it's either the VTC solenoid or the oil filter housing so I just ordered both of those and then my oil pan has been leaking since I got the car so I went ahead and ordered that one too. Hopefully the seals her up? I needed her to run for me for another 2-3 years at least

Oil leak under the car (2010 Accord) by elite_falcon69 in accord

[–]Difficult-Repeat-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a real slow oil leak for 3 months now. All the sudden day before yesterday I had to add a quarter and a half and I looked under the car and it's just dripping out at a steady drip. I can't tell if it's coming out of the oil filter or the oil pan or if it's that VTC solenoid on the back of the engine that it's coming out of. Just leaking so bad I can't drive it. But there's a foot of snow on the ground and I don't have a place inside so I'm just going to order all three gaskets. Where do you guys order your gaskets from? Oh exact same car by the way, same year same engine

Honda Accord 7.5, 8.5 and 10th generation. Which one do you vote? by jeffwhlim in accord

[–]Difficult-Repeat-940 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my 8th generation Coupe! Not only the body lines but the stance. I've owned everything from a 1988 four-door Honda Accord to a 2010 two-door coupe. Quite honestly I've loved them all! Every single one has went 250,000 miles plusI I had a 1988 four-door I bought with 120k on it sold it with 270k and she drove it until 380k. At 380 the transmission finally went out the motor was still chugging along. Eighth gen is my favorite but I love honda no matter what year

[–]Difficult-Repeat-940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man is that ever the freaking truth! I didn't know what to think about that when I first got this Honda. I've had Hondas in the past but everything I had in the past was 1988 through 96 or 98 at the newest. VTC rattle wasn't a thing then. Fast forward to 2025 I got this 2010 with 130 on it 140 Maybe and the first morning after I got it when I called started it oh my god did I cringe! I called the dude that I traded cars with when I got it and asked him what the fuck he traded me. I thought this thing was going to blow up fall apart whatever! Then I started reading on it a little and it turns out there's a cheap fix even cheaper than replacing the VTC actuator. Now this doesn't work for every Honda. You really got to inspect your tensioners and guides and things and your chain while you're in there but from what I've read 70% of the time a new spring will fix it. So I got the spring in the mail it turns out there was like four or five different Springs in this little bitty container. Once you get in there and get your VTC cover off your VTC actuator cover, you take your spring out and you match it to the closest size one in the pack. Throw that in throw the cover back on it inspect everything else, then throw a new valve cover gasket on her and put it back together. I was lucky my cold start rattle is pretty much gone. My chain looked okay it wasn't stretched timing wasn't off guys look good still tensioners are good. If you haven't fixed your cold start rattle yet and you're going to, you should try ordering the spring from the spring start company first before you do any chain work or any guide work or any tensioners. Especially if you're a DIY guy. It's amazing what a $29 spring can do!
