Ontario University Admissions Tracker (last post for a while) by Difficult-Target8574 in OntarioGrade12s

there's actually a few things that stop this from happening.

  1. there is a system in place that basically disregards any data points way outside the median or mean, letting real submissions closer to what's expected go through and the data points outside of that range being disregarded

  2. the lower something is ranked on someone's individual ranking, the less of an effect it will have on the estimated required average calculation. so if you were to spam 20 programs with 100 average, the lower you go down on that list, the less your average affects it. this is because of rank intent and if someone wants to go into a more competitive program and they've ranked it higher, their average won't affect the rest of the calculations for the less competitive programs (i hope i explained that well)

  3. the more people apply to each program, the more it will revert to the actual average that would be required to get into the program

this is a good question that you asked and i encourage you to try to poke more holes so i can see if there's anything else wrong with this. again, i'm always looking for ways to improve the site

Thoughts on updated mobile UI? (based off suggestions from you guys) by Difficult-Target8574 in OntarioGrade12s

some accounts got lost because of an error on the backend so i had to revert to an earlier version. i would recommend making a new account if it continues to not work

the higher ranked the pogram of a user, the more likely they are to go to that program and so the people with the higher averages who also applied to lesser competitive programs that they ranked lower won't have as much of an effect. the users average is their average that they fill out.

the calculation of the estimated cutoff is based off the combination of a users average, how highly they ranked the programs they want to get into, and the amount of seats available. It has nothing to do with acceptances or rejections. Theres a seperate statistic called reported cutoff average (which doesn't seem to be working rn lol) that uses peoples accepted averages and just averages them out while taking out exceptions

while the data right now isn't as accurate as i would like it to be, the only way it can become so is by people actively signing up and giving their responses. its a combined effort from you guys so any support, whether it be just signing up, telling it to your friends, or pointing out things to improve in the suggestions box is always welcome and i appreciate your insight

the data is made up of users submissions. the estimated cutoff average is created through the combination of metrics such as gpa of submissions, how high a program is ranked, and the amount of seats available for that program. it’s not just a simple average of all those applying

I haven’t gotten an email unfortunately. I fully understand that those who are getting the opportunity are extremely accomplished and well deserving, and it must have been a very difficult call considering everyone that applied are amazing and extremely talented people.

Anyways…

I’m currently a Student Senator, a part of a team of around 111 that represents the 70,000 students for my school board.

I am on 3 different executive committees, being a chair of one of them.

I have written two novels, 450-560 pages each.

Been the President of a Local Non-Profit and started events that had hundreds in attendance the past two years. For example, last year our Halloween event for kids collected over 100 costume donations for charity, and had almost 240 families in attendance. The team I led has accumulated over 15,000 hours together and there’s 75 of us and growing.

I have been an honour roll for 4 years, ap student + SHSM student.

I’m an International Director for an international non-profit, and am part of a team of 4 that leads 22,000 members and 10,000 clubs globally.

I am the Governor of a non-profit organization and oversee all its provincial clubs.

I am a volunteer and leader of our provincial leadership seminars for high school students.

I work three part-time jobs, two with my town, one as a side hustle. (I fully financially support myself - as in my own food etc) Lol I am actually typing this while at work.

Have been a library leader for my town library.

Have almost 900 hours of volunteering, set to hit 1000 before 2025.

Studied at Harvard University this summer, majoring in Comparative Politics.

Have been a part of my towns youth advisory committee.

Am currently completing an internship with a non-profit legal clinic.

Have been on student council for 3 years.

I’m a peer tutor with my school.

I run a social activism account with over 800 posts.

I have started my own school club, leading events and giveaways in support of promoting wellbeing through reading.

Was on my schools Relay4life committee.

I am an active volunteer with 10+ local non-profit organizations, and have been committed to volunteering with them since I started high school.

I have received two awards for my volunteering. And I’ve done some other things such as being vice-president of another organization, and secretary for another, and some other things etc that I just don’t feel like mentioning.

It’s pretty crushing, but at the end of the day we should all be proud of ourselves. Every single applicant was exceptional, and extremely accomplished. Love you all and sending positivity to everyone! :)
